In addition, Lindahl will demonstrate the art of bronze coloration known as hot patination during the Saturday Morning Art Café from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the gallery. And she will show how she sculpts a wax pattern for a silicon bronze sculpture during the Tour from 1 to 4 p.m. Gallery owners Larry and Janet Everitt will be on hand to tell tales of mining turquoise in Nevada and turning the gems into some of the fine jewelry that fills the cases in their gallery. David Salk’s Feats of Clay gallery will showcase Salk’s internationally-collected ceramics, including his unusual “clay baskets.” The Idyllwild Gallery of Fine Art will feature glass Major Appliances Sales and Service 26500A Hwy. 243 Idyllwild.appliances@verizon.net artist Ali Shahvali. The gallery has a knack for discovering fresh talent, and Shahvali is indeed a rising star. The gallery will present an impressive show of Shahvali’s glass wall installations, chandeliers and sculptures. Lily Rock Gallery will introduce four new artists during the tour. Cuong Ta and Bob Crystal create uniquely sculpted clay vessels and platters. Sandra McKenzie Schmitt will present a series of sculptures entitled “Church Ladies,” inspired by the book,“Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats.” And glass artist Elodie Holmes creates organically shaped vessels held by black forged steel bases. The mysterious opal-colored glass that Holmes creates is often compared to the play of light at sunrise or in the Aurora Borealis. Willow Creek Gallery will showcase the sensuous bronze sculptures of local artist Marcia Cox. Naduville has been a working ceramicist since 1992 and studied at East L.A. College and College of the Desert. Casella won the People’s Choice award at the last two Alliance Members shows. Idyllwild ceramicist Allen Moore will show how he paints his ceramic pieces in preparation for firing. Moore received the Artist’s Choice award at this year’s Idyllwild and the Eye event. Watercolorist Edwin Tuazon, a native of the Philippines who lives in Banning, will talk about technique and style as he creates a vibrant watercolor painting. Ashley McNeely, will show how she turns wood, charms, feathers, nettles, fabric and other natural elements into multi-media hearts. Gerry High, co-owner of Artspresso, will work on a series of 12-inch squares using wood, sand, cloth and paint in a mixed-media abstract design. The Four Corners Galley will feature the work of the late Frank Vrabel. Also featured is Ilona Passino’s dramatic stone sculpture “Bust of Woman.” Other Alliance galleries open during the tour include CRAIG COOPERSMITH, E.A. Capitani just won the Juried Members’ Show in the 3-D category. His studio and grounds in Mountain Center are a wonderland of metal creations from this prolific artist. This is part of the Alliance’s “First Saturday” series of art events that take place on the first Saturday of each month from March to October. The Alliance also hosts Saturday Morning Art Café artist demonstrations at a different Alliance membergallery each week. The Cafés are free, and coffee and fresh pastries are provided. A panel discussion will follow featuring Owen, Clarke, Baker, Jeanne Brako, curator of Collections and Public Programs at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colo., James Luna, Lusieno Indian and contemporary installation and performance artist, and Ernest Siva, Cahuilla storyteller, musician and birdsinger (traditional Native American dancing and singing). “Borderlands” was made possible, in part, by a grant from the California Council for the Humanities as part of the council’s statewide California Stories Initiative, and was sponsored by the Idyllwild Arts Native American Summer Program. “Borderlands” has been accepted for screening at Art exhibit at Nature Center The Idyllwild Nature Center is hosting a fatherdaughter art exhibit through the month of June. The exhibit features the work of artists Jan Jaspers-Fayer and Anita Dixon. The exhibit is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
