People are all the same to me,
And I could be just equal to -
The former native - only .
All my signs, all meanings,
All dates - are gone:
My soul , who was born - somewhere .
For my country has taken so little care of me,
That even my keenest eye
Along with all my soul, all – have been alienated!
That even my birthmark cannot be discerned!
Every house is alien to me , every church is empty,
Everything and all - is the same.
But if along the road – a bush
Rises, particularly – a rowanberry...
unpopular ones, alternate with lyrical evocations of an equally personal quality. They
originals is found in my Sources and References.
Alya, encouraged by her fanatic father, became determined to return to the USSR.
“What can they do to me I am innocent. Your dark tales are only anti-Soviet
propaganda.” Recalcitrant as she was, with her 25 years she needed to assert herself and
break free of her unyielding mother. She had no problem in obtaining a Soviet passport,
