11 Ministry of Justice Reforms
The report was presented by the Corporate Services
Manager, highlighting the operational and financial impacts
of the ‘Jackson Reforms’.
COMMITTEE QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION
The Committee questioned whether the new regime of not
being able to recover legal costs would reduce the number
of claims that we defend.
The Corporate Services Manager stated that it was likely
that we would be subjected to increased volume of claims in
the belief that we would settle rather than defend. It was,
therefore, important that we continue to robustly defend
cases where we believe that we are not liable, which was
agreed by the Committee.
