Examples of Community Team Projects

Speeding Project
The community surveys in the
Mid Torfaen and Pontypool
areas identified the theme of
the project ‘speeding traffic’
as one of their top 5 priorities.
Members of Mid Torfaen Area
Forum had also been
reporting their concerns
around parking at their
meetings.
The project recognised
that parking issues can
not be solved by
building a multi-storey
car park or digging up
green spaces. This
project tackles children
and works up to
parents, education and
advising responsible
road usage. The project
was delivered in 6
schools over the
summer term. They
were:
• Penygarn
• Garnteg
• Abersychan
• George Street
• Griffithstown
• Cwmffrdoer
The workshops included
a quiz on road safety, a
planning for real
Over 300 children were
involved in the project
and the results were
great showing that over
70% felt much safer
following the sessions.
We have received
positive feedback from
the school who have
requested that the
session runs every year
to year 6 as it is vital to
their development and
safety as well as the
importance of this type
of workshop on the local
community.
We have formed
positive partnership
relationships with the
Police, Communities
First, TCBC who have
also expressed a desire
Revisit the schools in 12
months time to evaluate
the project and
undertake a mini
exercise with young
people new to the year
group.
Explore the need to
deliver the project in
other areas.
Plan and deliver further
sessions in the school
and other areas.
