1926-1984 Vintage Models
Gearcovers with eight ribs were used on knuckle and pan
engines from 1940-’53. Covers for knuckle engines differ
from covers for pans in that they have a fitting in the top
of the cover that supplies oil to the top end. Top end oil in
early pan engines was supplied through passages in the
cylinders.
So called "flat side" gearcovers were used from
1965-’69 on pan and generator shovel engines.
The kit shown fits 1965 stock engines with outside
oilers for the top end. It can functionally be used
to replace four rib gearcovers for 1963-’64 outside
oiler engines, but is not cosmetically correct. Flat
side covers are also available for 1966-’69 engines
and for engines built with S&S crankcases. (S&S
106-1627 version includes a boss at the 12 o'clock
position to cover tappet block oil passage machining
on S&S crankcases.)
106-1619
Gearcovers with four ribs were used on stock engines
from 1954-’64. The kit shown here is designed for use
with S&S or stock crankcases and features countersunk
screw holes, and includes ¼"-24 and ¼"-20 tapered
head screws. All gearcovers for S&S crankcases are set
up for late style pinion shafts with a gearcover bearing
diameter of 9/16". Four-rib gearcovers are also available
for stock crankcases for 1954-’62.
