ABOUT THE AUTHORS<br />
holds a PhD in Political Science,<br />
specializing on security sector re<strong>for</strong>m and development, peace studies,<br />
small arms and gun-violence, gender, and social movements.<br />
She is currently the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Pax Christi -Pilipinas,<br />
and also a member of the Board of Demokraxxia, a think tank aimed at<br />
promoting the values and ideals of democracy. She sits in the steering<br />
committee of the Philippine Action Network to Control Arms (PhilANCA),<br />
a local group that advocates <strong>for</strong> stricter gun-control and lobbies <strong>for</strong> the<br />
passage of an international Arms Trade Treaty.<br />
She is part of the International Board of the International Peace Research<br />
Association Foundation (IPRAF), and serves as convener of the Gender<br />
<br />
Peace Research Association (IPRA).<br />
She currently sits as Independent Observer in the Government Monitoring<br />
Committee on CARHRIHL (Comprehensive Agreement on Respect <strong>for</strong><br />
<br />
between the Govt of the Philippine (GPh) and the Nat’l Democratic Front<br />
(NDF).<br />
Dr. Oreta is Asst. Professor on Political Science at the Ateneo de Manila<br />
<br />
is a graduate of BA Public<br />
Administration from the National College of Public Administration and<br />
Governance of the University of the Philippines-Diliman. She has served<br />
in the Department of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the<br />
Philippines (AFP) in various capacities since 2005. She has been awarded<br />
a Plaque of Merit by the Chief of Staff, AFP <strong>for</strong> her contribution in the<br />
crafting of the AFP’s Internal Peace and Security Plan Bayanihan which<br />
sets the strategic direction of the AFP. She currently serves as consultant<br />
<br />
Group on Security Sector Re<strong>for</strong>m of the Ateneo de Manila Univeristy<br />
- Department of Political Science. Her research delves into the peace<br />
process, national security, gender and development in the military, and<br />
security sector re<strong>for</strong>m.
