i. Elements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Right to Adequate Housing
Element <strong>of</strong> RAH
Description
i. Security <strong>of</strong> tenure Whe<strong>the</strong>r freehold, leasehold or o<strong>the</strong>r form <strong>of</strong> individual or
and freedom from collective possession <strong>of</strong> housing, must be protected from forced
dispossession

guaranteeing access to, use <strong>of</strong>, and control over, land, property
and hosing resources. Each individual and community has a

compensate, resettle or provide restitution.
ii. Public goods & For example: safe drinking water, sanitation, sewage and waste

lighting, transport, fuel, communication. These must be
accessible, adequate, and based on <strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> community.
The government must regulate distribution and service
provision by private industry, as well as combat corruption.

infrastructure.
iii. Environmental Every community must have access to natural resources

pollution and protect against environmental degradation <strong>of</strong>
water sources.
