AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION AND
COMMUNICATION
The master of science in agricultural
education and communication program is
designed for practicing teachers. The
degree is intended to be completed in 2.5
years and consists of 11 courses, a final
examination, and a project, rather than a
traditional master’s thesis. “The course
schedule and content are tailored to meet
the instructional and scheduling needs of
busy practicing educators” (University of
Florida Distance Delivered Master of Science
Program, 2007).
ENTOMOLOGY
The University of Florida’s Entomology
and Nematology Department offers a master
of science degree with a concentration
in entomology. A master of science in entomology
with a concentration in pest management
is also offered at a distance by the
university. “Courses are offered via distance
education to accommodate placebound
students interested in biological science
with emphasis on insects and other
arthropods, including extension agents
and other educators; state and federal
employees in agricultural, environmental
and regulatory positions; consultants; pest
control industry personnel; and others
who want to further their education.”

Program, 2007). Each program consists
of 30 credits of coursework, delivered
through CD-ROMs, video, and online
technologies. A face-to-face component is
required. The capstone requirement of a
written and oral examination is scheduled
at one of the University of Florida’s campuses.
SOIL AND WATER SCIENCE
The Department of Soil and Water Science
offers a master of science in environmental
science completely at a distance.
