1 Introduction<br />

violated. We present this concept separately for two reasons: first, the contributions<br />

<strong>of</strong> Chapters 3-5 are easier to understand using the simple model <strong>of</strong> periodical reoptimization;<br />

second, although the concept <strong>of</strong> on-demand re-optimization has been<br />

designed for integration flows, other research fields can also benefit from this general<br />

re-optimization approach.<br />

Finally, Chapter 7 concludes this thesis with a summary <strong>of</strong> achieved results and a<br />

discussion <strong>of</strong> open research aspects.<br />

In the first part, we give the necessary background in terms <strong>of</strong> a literature survey.<br />

Subsequently, in the second part, we explain the foundations <strong>of</strong> periodical cost-based reoptimization<br />

and discuss two integration-flow-specific optimization techniques in detail.<br />

Finally, the third part introduces the advanced concept <strong>of</strong> on-demand, cost-based reoptimization<br />

and how the presented approaches from Part II benefit from this concept.<br />
