Oil cooler kits<br />

These days we expect our cars to cope with high speeds for long periods of<br />

time, on motorways etc... These conditions stress the standard oil system of<br />

the Mini, as high engine speeds cause the oil to heat up and thin, reducing<br />

its viscosity and leading to a subsequent drop in oil pressure and possible<br />

premature engine wear. Oil cooler installation kits are available with either<br />

rubber or braided stainless steel hoses, the oil radiators themselves are sold<br />

separately. These are for non front mounted radiator models.<br />

Oil cooler thermostats<br />

Use these thermostats to limit the flow of oil through the oil cooler until it<br />

has reached a temperature of 74 degrees Celsius.<br />

The standard oil thermostat has push on connectors for use with 1/2”<br />

rubber hoses and comes with hose clips. It seals off the radiator completely<br />

until the oil is up to temperature. The full flow oil thermostat restricts flow<br />

to the radiator by allowing it to bypass through the thermostat until the oil<br />

is up to operating temperature. Use screw unions TT29602 to connect hoses<br />

to the full flow thermostat.<br />

Good oil supply is a must, with the Mini’s cornering capabilities oil<br />

starvation is a possibility all precautions should be taken. The oil pressure<br />

regulator allows you to adjust the preload on the oil pressure relief valve so<br />

you can alter the peak oil pressure. Please remember oil pumps require<br />

priming before fitment. Always remove spark plugs and spin engine over<br />

until oil pressure registers. See page A21 for K&N performance oils filters.<br />

Oil catch tanks<br />

If you modify the breather or induction systems of your car for either road<br />

or track use collection of oil should be considered. An oil catch tank is a<br />

must for competition use to prevent oil spillage on the track and it is also<br />

desirable to prevent oil vapour settling around the engine bay. These catch<br />

tanks are designed to be connected to the crankcase ventilation system,<br />

catching the oil vapour, allowing the air to vent through the special cap.<br />

Manufactured from high grade aluminium and anodised for a smart, durable<br />

finish they feature 2 x 1/2” OD connectors for the breather hoses, level<br />

indicator, breather cap and drain plug. Available in 1 litre or 2 litre sizes.<br />

Mount using the rear flange to a suitable vertical panel in the engine bay.<br />

Cobalt silicone hose sets with clips<br />

Our new high quality multi-ply silicone hoses are a must<br />

to upgrade your Mini’s cooling system. Available in a choice of colours<br />

they include stainless steel clips, ensuring a long life. These kits fit all side<br />

mounted radiator models, except SPI and MPI. Trimming of the top hose<br />

is required to suit your car. Instructions included.<br />
