B.1.3 Languages of filing<br />
Figure B.1.3 presents the number of <strong>PCT</strong> applications<br />
filed for the top 10 languages of filing. 24<br />
The languages of filing with the largest increases in use<br />
in 2012 compared to the previous year were Japanese<br />
(+4,656 applications), English (+4,039), Chinese (+1,972)<br />
and Korean (+1,224).<br />
English remained by far the most frequently used language<br />
of filing in <strong>PCT</strong> applications filed during 2012,<br />
accounting for half of them (50.1%).<br />
In 2012, <strong>PCT</strong> applications were filed in 25 languages.<br />
The top 10 languages of filing represented 99.3% of total<br />
filings. The remaining languages were mainly European<br />
languages such as Finnish, Dutch and Swedish.<br />
