B.5.4 Timeliness in transmitting IPRPs by time<br />
category and IPEA<br />
Figure B.5.4 presents the same timeliness information<br />
for 2012 as in figures B.5.2 and B.5.3, but provides a<br />
breakdown by IPEA.<br />
In 2012, the offices of Spain, Sweden and Japan transmitted,<br />
respectively, 97.2%, 91.2% and 91.1% of IPRPs within<br />
28 months from the priority date of the application; whereas<br />
the USPTO, the offices of Austria and Canada transmitted,<br />
respectively, 63.9%, 38.5% and 34.3% of IPRPs later<br />
than 32 months from the priority date of the application.<br />

<strong>PCT</strong>-PPH Pilots<br />
Use of the <strong>PCT</strong>-Patent Prosecution Highway (<strong>PCT</strong>-PPH)<br />
pilots enables applicants, where a favorable written opinion<br />
or IPRP has been issued by the participating ISA and/<br />
or IPEA, to fast-track patent examination procedures in<br />
the national phase and, generally, to obtain a patentability<br />
decision more quickly from participating offices.<br />
In 2012, 38 <strong>PCT</strong>-PPH pilots were active, with the participation<br />
of 21 offices, including 14 international authorities.<br />
B.6.1 New <strong>PCT</strong>-PPH pilots<br />
The following offices started bilateral <strong>PCT</strong>-PPH pilots<br />
in 2012:<br />
