<strong>FIMA</strong> GLOBAL RELIEF<br />
disaster management due to isolation and<br />
prolonged siege.<br />
• IMA-Jordan, in collaboration with the Jordan<br />
<strong>Medical</strong> Association, sent 3 teams <strong>of</strong> over 40<br />
doctors, many <strong>of</strong> whom were surgeons. During<br />
their stay they donated medical equipment and<br />
supplies to the local health authorities.<br />
• IMA-Pakistan (PIMA) sent two surgeons<br />
along with the IMANA delegation as well as<br />
three others, under leadership <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>. Iqbal<br />
Khan.<br />
• When borders opened to medical<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. Arab <strong>Medical</strong> Union (AMU),<br />
including IMA-Egypt, sent 21 doctors and 40<br />
more the following day.<br />
• Arab <strong>Medical</strong> Union delivered 200 units <strong>of</strong><br />
blood and 1,000 more units the following day.<br />
The following funds were transferred to local<br />
relief and charity NGOs in Gaza:<br />
• Pertubuhan Jamaah Islah Malaysia (JIM),<br />
through IMA-Malaysia, USD 42,400.<br />
• <strong>FIMA</strong>/IMA South Africa/other contributions,<br />
USD 100,000.<br />
• IMA Pakistan, USD 17,500.<br />
• IMA Jordan: USD 100,000.<br />
• Supporting a maternity hospital with financial<br />
assistance, medical equipment, personnel and<br />
training.<br />
• Assisting the health authorities in<br />
rehabilitating primary health structures and<br />
clinics and extending its services to the entire<br />
population.<br />
• Provision <strong>of</strong> needed medicines, consumables<br />
and medical equipments to medical<br />
institutions. In <strong>2010</strong>, <strong>FIMA</strong> paid for X-Ray<br />
and ultrasound equipments, surgical, lab. and<br />
other medical equipments in excess <strong>of</strong><br />
350,000 USD. These purchases were donated<br />
mainly by IMANA, IMASA, and IMA-<br />
Jordan.<br />
There were significant contributions from IMA-<br />
Egypt in collaboration with Arab Medial Union<br />
and the Egyptian <strong>Medical</strong> Association.<br />
IMA-Sudan and IMA-Malaysia/Mercy Malaysia<br />
provided significant aid in the post war period.<br />
IMA-Malaysia was instrumental in organizing<br />
VIVA PALESTINA initiative, which is addressed<br />
elsewhere in this publication.<br />
<strong>FIMA</strong> humanitarian-medical relief activities has<br />
been ongoing, by various IMAs and collaborating<br />
NGOs, ever since the December 2008 aggression.<br />
<strong>FIMA</strong> has committed itself to the reconstruction<br />
and rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> the health system in Gaza and<br />
is currently engaged in the following services:<br />
• Dispatching specialized medical-surgical<br />
teams to provide care to those deprived <strong>of</strong><br />
care in view <strong>of</strong> the local deficiencies and<br />
prolonged siege.<br />
• <strong>Medical</strong> education and training at all levels<br />
including undergraduate and postgraduate<br />
teaching as well as in-service training <strong>of</strong><br />
health personnel isolated by the sanctions<br />
imposed by Israeli authorities.<br />
