Darfur-Sudan, March 12-13,<strong>2010</strong><br />
organized by: British Friends <strong>of</strong> Sudan<br />
(BFOSS), in collaboration with Ahfad<br />
University for Women, Development<br />
Action Now (DAN)-Sudan, and the<br />
London Middle East Institute-School <strong>of</strong><br />
oriental and African Studies-University <strong>of</strong><br />
London.<br />
• Seminar-Workshop held in Cairo-Egypt,<br />
November 23-26,2008, in collaboration<br />
with WHO-EMRO, and International<br />
Agency for Prevention <strong>of</strong> Blindness<br />
(IAPB), under Vision-2020.<br />
<strong>FIMA</strong> International Ophthalmic Committee:<br />
Meeting- Kasala-Sudan,2006<br />
• The World Assembly <strong>of</strong> Muslim Youth<br />
(WAMY)-Saudi Arabia: collaboration in<br />
holding <strong>of</strong> eye camps the African<br />
countries: Chad, Senegal, Nijer and Mali.<br />
• An agreement with “ Sri Lanka Eye<br />
Donation Society”-August 2007, to<br />
provide live corneas for transplantation.<br />
This society has good setup for<br />
procurement and donation, with surplus<br />
corneas.<br />
• <strong>Islamic</strong> International Relief Organization<br />
(IIRO)-Saudi Arabia: collaboration in eye<br />
camp in Burkina Faso, June 15,2009.<br />
Conventions:<br />
<strong>FIMA</strong> Save Vision representatives have<br />
participated in the following conventions:<br />
• Symposium (VISION 2020 in Africa-The<br />
Next 10 <strong>Year</strong>s), held in Bahrain, March<br />
27-28,2009, in collaboration with WHO-<br />
EMRO, International Agency for<br />
Prevention <strong>of</strong> Blindness (IAPB), and the<br />
Middle East African Council <strong>of</strong><br />
Ophthalmology (MEACO).<br />
Awards:<br />
<strong>FIMA</strong> Save Vision Program won the American<br />
College <strong>of</strong> Physicians (ACP) Award <strong>of</strong> 2009,<br />
named (Richard and Hilda Rosenthal Award). In a<br />
formal letter, from ACP Chair-Awards<br />
Committee, Dr. Barbara J. Jurner, to <strong>FIMA</strong> Save<br />
Vision Chairman, the following significant<br />
paragraphs are worth documenting:<br />
“ Dear Dr. Hafeez Ur Rahman, As Chair <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Awards Committee <strong>of</strong> the American College <strong>of</strong><br />
Physicians, I am pleased to inform you that, based<br />
on the recommendations <strong>of</strong> my Committee, the<br />
Board <strong>of</strong> Regents has voted to elect <strong>FIMA</strong> Save<br />
Vision as our 2009 recipient <strong>of</strong> the Richard and<br />
Hilda Award #2 …”<br />
“ The competition for this award was extremely<br />
stiff but <strong>FIMA</strong> Save Vision’s contributions were<br />
