Sexually Violent Offender Registry<br />

<strong>GBI</strong> is responsible for maintaining <strong>the</strong> Georgia Sexually Violent Offender (SVO)<br />

Registry. This registry holds <strong>information</strong> pertaining to convicted sex offenders<br />

who are released from prison or placed on probation, parole, or supervised<br />

release.<br />

U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)<br />

Law Enforcement Support Center<br />

U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) service and benefit<br />

functions transitioned to <strong>the</strong> Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as<br />

USCIS in 2003.<br />

USCIS is responsible for <strong>the</strong> administration of immigration and naturalization<br />

adjudication functions and establishing immigration services, policies and<br />

priorities.<br />

Functions include:<br />

• Adjudication of immigrant visa petitions<br />

• Adjudication of naturalization petitions<br />

• Adjudication of asylum and refugee applications<br />

• Adjudications performed at <strong>the</strong> service <strong>center</strong>s<br />

• All o<strong>the</strong>r adjudications performed by <strong>the</strong> INS<br />

Validation of CJIS Files<br />

All law enforcement and criminal justice agencies with<br />

wanted/missing/unidentified persons, protection order, gang, and/or stolen<br />

property record entries in NCIC computerized files are required to participate in<br />

<strong>the</strong> record validation program established and administered by GCIC and NCIC.<br />

Validation requires <strong>the</strong> entering ORI to confirm that <strong>the</strong> record is valid, complete,<br />

accurate, and still outstanding or active.<br />

Agency heads are legally responsible (O.C.G.A. §35-3-33, §35-3-36) for <strong>the</strong><br />

validity, completeness and accuracy of agency record entries and may be held<br />

personally liable for <strong>the</strong> results of actions by o<strong>the</strong>r departments or agencies, when<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir actions are based on record entries.<br />

Record entries subject to validation are:<br />

• Wanted/Missing/Unidentified Persons<br />

• Vehicles/License Plates<br />

• Guns<br />
