Health Sciences Simulation Center<br />

Student rotations through the current location of the HSSC in the Gary Health Building<br />

numbered 3,881 during the 2011‐2012 academic year<br />

Programs utilizing simulation experiences in the HSSC include ADN, PN, EMS, PTA, and RPT<br />

Faculty training with Harvey, The Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator took place with 27<br />

participants from the Health Sciences<br />

Acquisitions during the academic year:<br />

• SimMan3G<br />

• Harvey, The Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator<br />

• Hal, Dynamic Airway and Lung Compliance Simulator<br />

• KbPort ECT + Recording System (2)<br />

• 3G2 and SimMan warranty extensions<br />

• Crib and stretcher<br />

• Noelle and Baby Hal warranty extension<br />

Health Sciences Resource Center<br />

Provided tutorial services through funding provided by the <strong>Wallace</strong> Foundation and funds<br />

remaining from Caregiver Training Initiative (ADN, PN, and Respiratory Therapist students<br />

attended 142 tutor sessions)<br />

Funding provided through Caregiver Training Initiative for 47 nursing students, who had<br />

completed their first semester Fundamentals of Nursing course, to sit for the Certified Nurse<br />

Aide exam (25 certified through the Alabama Department of Public Health with 17 awaiting test<br />

results)<br />

CAREER AND TECHNICAL PROGRAMS<br />

Increased enrollment of career and technical students by 84 from the fall of 2010 to the fall of<br />

2011<br />

Increased credit hours generated from 11,445 to 11,586.<br />

Enrollment increased in the ACR, CRJ, MAS, NUC and SER programs over the previous year<br />

Increased CTE graduates by 130 (146 to 276) over the same period of the previous year<br />

Established student internship program between Sparks campus INT program and Johnson<br />

Outdoors in Eufaula (two slots annually)<br />

Established student co‐op program between WCC INT programs and Army Corp of Engineers<br />

Implemented the “Blue Vase Degree” and the “Extra Degree” awards for recognition of CTE<br />

faculty<br />

Established an “Eye Can” icon for use by CTE faculty to promote and support the Instructional<br />

Affairs “ICAN” initiative<br />

Introduced two instructional improvement initiatives in CTE (one addressing improvement in<br />

instructional strategies and one addressing assessment of student learning)<br />

Completed SWOT analysis for all programs<br />

Successfully addressed the COC finding regarding Student Learning Outcomes<br />

Participated in the SavFirst Tax initiative (Delmar Smith, Woodrow Farrington, and Paula Mims)<br />

Received a Green Welding grant of $95,000 to established a welding simulation lab on the<br />

<strong>Wallace</strong> campus<br />

Added an instructor office in the INT/NUC lab on the <strong>Wallace</strong> campus<br />

Added just under 1 million dollars in new equipment to the Nuclear Technology lab on the<br />

<strong>Wallace</strong> campus<br />

Purchased General Physics curriculum package for use in the Nuclear Technology program<br />

Established Nuclear Technology as a standalone program
