In summarizing I would <strong>the</strong>refore agree with M. Pröpstle th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> gramm<strong>at</strong>ical subject <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> following<br />

verbs in v. 12 are <strong>the</strong> “host”, but <strong>the</strong> logical subject would still be <strong>the</strong> “horn”. But if we think still deeper,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n we could even say th<strong>at</strong> we could see both, <strong>the</strong> host” <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> “horn”, as belonging to all following<br />

verbs in <strong>the</strong> text!<br />

By th<strong>at</strong> I do not mean th<strong>at</strong> it only concerns <strong>the</strong> verb “tinn<strong>at</strong>en” (was given), but also “tashlech” (cast down<br />

<strong>the</strong> truth), <strong>and</strong> also <strong>the</strong> two following verb “w’astha” <strong>and</strong> “w’hizli’chah” ! (it practised <strong>and</strong> prospered)<br />

Th<strong>at</strong> is to say, th<strong>at</strong> everything th<strong>at</strong> now is going on in <strong>the</strong> text could be seen from this point <strong>of</strong> view. In this<br />

case not only <strong>the</strong> little horn but also his “host” would logically be engaged in <strong>the</strong> b<strong>at</strong>tle against <strong>the</strong><br />

sanctuary <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> people.<br />

Could it be, th<strong>at</strong> this has to do something with <strong>the</strong> background <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> two powers, <strong>of</strong> whom we were<br />

talking above, <strong>and</strong> who according to Dan. 11,31 became a united power? So in Dan. 8, 12 we could<br />

eventually find <strong>the</strong> same idea, as we already saw in <strong>the</strong> interpreting part in Dan. 11.31. We even should<br />

expect it like th<strong>at</strong>! So <strong>the</strong>refore <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> verbs in <strong>the</strong> singular form would be <strong>the</strong> logic way to describe<br />

<strong>the</strong> “Unity” between <strong>the</strong> king <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> north, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> arms th<strong>at</strong> stood <strong>at</strong> his side.<br />
