So there it has the idea of selecting or separate people out from somewhere! Would it not be an other
interesting meaning, that we would have to give to the deeper sense of purifying the sanctuary? God wants
us to go get clean from sin in separating us from it. That was always Gods call to Israel and his NT-people
and even more to the remnant church in the time of investigation judgment!
• In Neh. 5, 15 the word is used in a context where sheeps are chosen. The same in 1.Chron. 16, 41,
where people were chosen for the singing service in Salomons temple. So there is still this meaning in
the word. God wants has a chosen people and he wants us to live according to that privilege.
Now still another point in the grammatical form of the word as it is used in Daniel 12,10 is very thougthful.
• Some translators translate it as it is meant in the passage. “Many shall purify themselves! (In Hebrew
the word stands in the “Hitpael” form, which rightly can be translated with “purify themselves”!)
That gives us still another view of what could be brought in connection with the purifying process on the
people of God. Too many Christians and even Adventists are living with the deceiving idea that you just go
to Jesus and confess your sin, and then you are free and forgiven forever. Many believe that you don’t need
more than that. He covers you with his robe of righteousness and you are saved.
To many are also thinking that the cleansing of the sanctuary, which Dan. 8,14 talks about, is just a matter
and process in heaven in favor of the saints on earth. If Dan. 12,10 gives the real interpretation and the real
meaning of this cleansing process, then we have here a much deeper insight, to what has to be done within
the “sinning saints” on earth to be finally cleansed.
Jesus can not cleans a sinner, who does not in a certain sense cleanse himself and purify himself from sin. It
means to separate himself from sin and changing his heart and spirit by the power and grace of Jesus. This
is in absolute concordance with scripture!
Let’s see what Ezekiel says about that! “Repent and turn yourselves from all transgression; so iniquity
shall not be your ruin! Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby you have transgressed; make
you are new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, O house Israel?
Probably some of us would not believe that the Bible can say, that we have to make ourselves a new heart
an a new spirit. Usually we only know the verses where God says that he will give us a new hart and a new
spirit. (Ez. 36, 26) Does the Bible contradict itself or have we to understand that God cannot really resolve
the problem of our sin without our cooperation with him and with that what is going on right now in the
heavenly sanctuary. From there our High priest wants to give us not only grace for already committed sins,
but also to overcome sins and even temptations to sin. He gives us the promise to do that all over in His
word!
Now let’s look at the second word in Daniel 12, 10
b) “Many shall be made white”
This is the second word, by which the interpreting angel describes to the prophet this cleansing process at
the end of the time. We still have to see it as a heavenly explanation of the cleansing of the sanctuary of
Dan.8, 14!
The Hebrew word, that we find there is “itlabanu”, which comes from the word “laban” that in the original
form means “to make white”.
