“Some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge them and to make them white, even to
the time of the end.”
Here again we can see, what the angel in the vision means by this purifying process. And it was not only so
in the past time of history, but before all it will be within the remnant church in the time of the closing of
the end time-Yom Kippur. So if Dan. 11,35 and Dan.12, 10 can be seen as a additional interpretation to
Daniel 8,14 than we get a very clear understanding of the practical and the spiritual meaning, of what we
should finally understand by the cleansing or justification of the sanctuary.

It was very amazing for me to find out that E.G. White already saw the connection between the time of the
investigation judgment, and Dan. 12, 10. Here a quotation, where she is using exactly the three words
which we find in Dan. 12, 10!
“While these evils remain untouched everything passes along smoothly, but when the straight testimony
comes and reproof and rebuke are given, there is a rising up against the straight testimony. It does not
agree with the carnal mind, their carnal security is disturbed, they resist the work of God, and some will
fall off. The names of those who will be purified, made white, and tried are borne into the sanctuary and
mentioned by Jesus to His Father, and they are brought before the special notice of God. But those who
choose their own selfish course, their own dark way, will be permitted to go on.
Satan will control the will, and they will lose everlasting life. Those who are saved must yield their will,
their way, and be controlled by the Spirit of God. They must die daily all the way along, die, die to self and
be purified by the truth. 28
I think that in this context E.G. White has clearly the investigation judgment in mind.
But how does this idea, which - up to now - we only got out from the book of Daniel, fit to other passages
in the Old and New Testament. Some of these I had already brought in during this study, so I just would
like to still give one other important passage in the Old Testament. It is Malachi ch. 3, 1-4
The investigation judgment and the Yom Kippur in Malachi 3
I do not intend to give a deep interpretation of these passages for this study, because it also would take a
special study. So I just want to show up, how this passage has the same idea of purification than we found
in the book of Daniel. In addition to that we get a good combination to understand the connection between
the heavenly and the earthly sanctuary.
Malachi describes the coming of the Lord to His temple, to purify it. We know that this passage apply to
two different events in prophetic history. First it was already fulfilled, when Jesus comes on earth entering
the literal temple, and chasing out the profaners of the temple. But the text also talks of an end time coming
to His temple. “Who may abide the day of his coming, and who shall stand when he appears? For he is like
a refiners fire, and like fullers soap.” (Mal. 3,2)
