God leaves it now to us, to find out a time in history of the papacy, where the prophecy about the beginning of these events had taken place. From that time on, we should then count 1290 years, and then also 1335 years, to arrive at the time, when the restoration- or cleansing-process of the sanctuary would begin. How do we get there? • The historical situation for the taking away of the daily and the setting up the abomination of desolation. Dr. Jacques Doukhan gave us already a quite good and healthy historical background, how this prophecy become fulfilled in the year 508 AD, when the papacy got his first very powerful establishment as a religious, and political power by the conversion of Clodwig I, at that time King of the Francs. 18 This event has often been questioned, as if it really could be a good reason, to bring it together with this prophecy about the 1290 and 1335 days in Daniel 12, 11-12. For a lot of us, it probably doesn’t mean great thing in history. But it seems that our pope today, John Paul II, knows it better than we do, what it meant for the developing of the Papacy in the early history. • A special attention to King Clodwig by Pope John Paul II It is interesting to note in this connection, that John Paul II in remembrance to the conversion of Clodwig, came to a special visit to France in Okt. 1996. The Newspapers and TVs informed that this visit was a gesture, by which the pope officially wanted to thank the French Nation for that, what a great founder of this nation has done for the Papacy about1500 years ago. So 1500 years after the baptism of this great king of the early Francs the pope knew that this king was a great help for the Papacy, in order to become able, to get its unholy influence over a great part of the early Europe. History tells us that since the baptism of king Clodwig, that they suppose having taken place in 496 AC, this king become very successful in conquering great European nations at that time. All these pagan nations where partially forced to become catholic by accepting the faith of their great Emperor. So within some years of the reign of Clodwig, a major part of the ancient Europe was submitted under the religious power of the papacy. Clodwig by these conquerings has given to the church a great gift, for which the pope found it worthy to thank the French Nation even today. (By the way, there were many Protestant people and others on the street, who protested against this anniversary, because they knew, what this really meant for the destruction and persecution of millions of people during the next centuries.) What do we know exactly about this historical development? It would just fit so perfect in this prophetic picture. Which were the further consequences of that situation in relation to the supremacy of the Papacy? • Up to that time the church had already adopted lots of traditions and false doctrines that were not in accordance with scripture any more. • The Bishop of Rome played already a supreme rule within the Christianity. • A false understanding concerning the role and the authority of the priests, had been developed. • Popes, Bishops, and Priests were more and more seen, and accepted as representatives of Christ here on earth. • They exercised their ministry as mediators between God and men, in a new Christian Europe, that was given them by king Clodwig. • This “heavenly authority” they exercised more and more even over Kings and Princes. They claimed that the spiritual authority surmounts the earthly authority. By spending the sacraments, they claim to be alone in right, in order to close and to shut heaven for everyone they decide. So this year 508 AC had a great importance for the beginning rulership of the Papacy at this time. God must have known it, long before, that this would be a good time to let the 1290 and 1335 years start at this point!
