There are those who oppose everything that is not in accordance with their own ideas, and by so doing they endanger their eternal interest as verily as did the Jewish nation in their rejection of Christ. The Lord designs that our opinions shall be put to the test, that we may see the necessity of closely examining the living oracles to see whether or not we are in the faith. Many who claim to believe the truth have settled down at their ease, saying, "I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing." But Jesus says to these selfcomplacent ones, Thou "knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked." Let us individually inquire, Do these words describe my case? If so, the True Witness counsels us, saying, "Buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayest see." Revival and reformation are two different things. Revival signifies a renewal of spiritual life, a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from spiritual death. Reformation signifies a reorganization, a change in ideas and theories, habits and practices. Reformation will not bring forth the good fruit of righteousness unless it is connected with the revival of the Spirit. Revival and reformation are to do their appointed work, and in doing this work they must blend.“--RH Feb. 25, 1902. All that has to a great extend to do with the purification of the sanctuary. In connection with our theme, we should seriously ask ourselves as a church, what changes in ideas and theories did we already experience to get closer to the truth? Sometimes one may have the impression, the contrary happened. Personally I realized that we rarely talk, and preach about this area of the cleansing of the sanctuary. Satan must be very pleasant, when we do not to much worry about this side of the sanctuary truth. Is that already something where we would have to change a tradition? “We are now amid the perils of the last days, when many shall be purified, made white, and tried. But the wicked shall do wickedly, and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. The warning is given, "Let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober." O, that the work of reformation so essential might begin! send me"! He who is wise in counsel is waiting for all to see their need of help; and it is abundantly provided; it is waiting for you. As a present help in every time of need, God's presence is revealed. As you call upon His name for help, He says, "Here I am," close beside you, ready to help you if you are ready to be helped” 37 This call for a reformation was in 1898. Did we already have this reformation? If not, why not? However it is, God in purifying his sanctuary on earth is preparing the greatest reformation that has still to come to give to this world a final and global warning as never before in history. • God’s final purpose with this reformation and restoration of the sanctuary Everything in God plan for the finishing of the work has his deeper sense. The deeper sense of the restoration of the truth is finally the unity of Gods end time- people. We all know, and experience, to what extend we as the so called remnant church, are unified in our believing. Actually we can not be very proud about all the differences that we meet within our church. We all see how difficult it sometimes is, to be really united in our understanding of certain doctrines or on prophetic interpretations. We experience how many discussions we have in our churches about healthful living and lifestyle-questions. In all this we sometimes feel that we are far off the purpose God has with His church especially at the end of the time, when he wants to purify the church to get ready for His coming, and being glorified, and sanctified by the church. God says: “I shall be sanctified in you”! (Es. 28, 22; 36, 23; 39,27, ) Now, God cannot be glorified and sanctified by an ununited church. If His actual work in heaven would just be forgiving, and blotting out our sins from the books in heaven, and not also in helping us, to get unified in love, faith, and in knowledge of His word, how could the church here on earth become a united church? But we cannot just pray for it, and otherwise not studying, and seek for more truth. Jesus was praying for the Unity of the church, as He with His Father is one. Will this prayer ever be fulfilled? I do not think that Jesus would, or even could come before that would not be realized within the remnant church! That was also the faith of the Apostle Paul, when he wrote to the Ephesians. “….Till we all come in the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. (Eph. 4, 13) To reach this goal, it also needs a special purification of the sanctuary, as we already pointed it out. Only if we get real rid of all traditions and human meanings, and that we only let the Holy Spirit and the Bible speak, can we come up to this state of perfection in unity that would honor and glorify God. The Unity in the remnant church in the last battle of history as seen by E.G. White By the Spirit of Prophecy we get this promise for the church in the context of the time of the latter rain and the loud cry. E.G.
