The setting up of the abomination of desolation at the end of the time
A third fulfillment at the end of the time
To my understanding the third fulfillment must have to do with a situation just before the end, in which the
remnant church would be involved all over the world.
Could it be that this “abomination that makes desolate” Jesus revealed it to John in the vision about the
image of the beast?
Isn’t the description of the “image of the beast” very similar to what we have in Daniel 11, 31-35? It
follows exactly the same way of development.
The image of the beast will not come up by his own power!
It will have helpers to come up. If we study Rev. 13, then there will be at least three categories of helpers
who will be involved.
(1) On the basic we find the beast itself, which is involved. (The one that comes out from the sea!) This is
Catholicism! But the Papacy will have an other helper to bring up his image!
(2) The next and main helper will be the lamb like beast that comes out from the earth! It is America and
the fallen Protestantism. But this beast will still have other helpers to realize the power of the image of
the beast.
(3) There will be those that dwell on earth, who will be deceived by the lamb like beast in collaboration
with the sea-beast, to finally call for the establishment of such a worldwide power, as the prophet sees
in the image of the beast.
So if we think through this process, then we find to some extend the same preparing process, as we had it in
the beginning of the Christian church. The Christian world will let them get deceived by satanic influence.
And because they do not have and belief the truth anymore, as we find it in Jesus, and in the Bible, they
would be “corrupt by flatteries”. They will accept to follow the image of the beast, which according to my
understanding of Revelation it will be a threefold manifestation of satanic power on this earth.
It will be the coalition of “the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet”, as Rev. 16,13 describes it. So
history will repeat itself. “By transgression” within the Christian world, an abomination that will cause
desolation (= image of the beast) will be build up.
I believe that E.G. White confirms very clear this kind of interpretation concerning the building of the
image of the beast at the end of the time, which is ours!
“ It was apostasy that led the early church to seek the aid of the civil government, and this prepared the
way for the development of the papacy--the beast. Said Paul: "There" shall "come a falling away, . . . and
that man of sin be revealed." 2 Thessalonians 2:3. So apostasy in the church will prepare the way for the
image to the beast. (GC 443-44)
A very striking parallel, isn’t it? But what does E. G. White by “the church” mean in this context? Did she
only have the Christian churches in mind? Could it be, that church means also our church! Could it be that
it means that even the SDA church would experience a great apostasy? Does it mean, that the king of the
north would once again to some extend succeed, to cast down the truth, and the sanctuary to the ground?
If we belief the Bible, we should not doubt that it would be like that. In 2. Thessl. Paul says, that the man
of lawlessness will cause a great apostasy within the temple of God. Now the temple of God is not the
