BSO – “Weekend of Magic”
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra marks Bournemouth’s Bicentenary with an amazing
two concerts - Proms in the Park - A Celebration of the Sea on Friday 6 August; plus
Galactic Classics on Saturday 7 August, which offers several close encounters!
Celebrate Bournemouth’s 200th birthday with the
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in a spectacular gala
concert on Friday 6th August at Bournemouth’s Meyrick Park.
With popular classics such as Fingals Cave, Rule Britannia,
Jerusalem and an explosive 1812 Overture this is a great way
to spend a summer evening with family and friends.
The BSO is delighted to be joined by conductor Peter Stark for
this Bournemouth Bicentenary BSO concert. Born and brought
up in Bournemouth, and a past pupil of Bournemouth School,
Peter featured on the BBC programme Maestro and is a
conductor of national renown. He is joined by tenor Jeffrey
Lloyd-Roberts, who will be singing among other things ‘Our
Bournemouth – the BSO’s new anthem written especially for
the Bicentenary year.
The Saturday night is the turn of Galactic Classics - a concert that celebrates all things
other-worldly through the full power and scale of a symphony orchestra, so let the BSO take
you on a journey far, far away! Complete with classic space-themed soundtracks by John
Williams and James Horner such as E.T, Apollo 13, Star Wars and Avatar this is a concert
designed for all the family… and hopefully not too many little green men…….
Both concerts feature jumbo LED screens, special
lighting effects, a fantastic fireworks finale and,
new for this year, specially choreographed fire
fountains – never seen before in the UK!
