From Friday 1 st to Sunday 3 rd October, events will be<br />
taking place in celebration of Mary Shelley, author of<br />
the infamous “Frankenstein”. Most of the weekend’s<br />
events are taking place in the atmospheric and eerily<br />
gothic building of the <strong>Bournemouth</strong> Natural Science<br />
Society (BNSS), 39 Christchurch Road, <strong>Bournemouth</strong>,<br />
BH1 3NS with its splendid collection of stuffed animal<br />
and fossil specimens. Admittance is free unless<br />
otherwise stated.<br />
Friday 1st October<br />
7.30 -9.30pm Mary Shelley shares with you the tragedies, joys and scandals of her remarkable life at the<br />
BNSS. A reluctant celebrity of her day, how does she respond to the crass television interviewing<br />
techniques of a rising media star? Tickets £7 per person (£5 concessions).<br />
Saturday 2 nd October<br />
2.30 – 5pm “Shocks, Sparks and Corpses: Electricity in the 18th and 19th Centuries”: Dr. Nicholas<br />
Cambridge of UCL talks on electricity and bringing back the dead in the 18th century. The talk is<br />
also part of the BNSS regular Saturday lecture series. Contact BNSS for further details.<br />
7.30 - 11pm Award winning writer, Diane Samuels presents the first rehearsed reading of her new<br />
play, The End of the Romance, followed by discussion with playwright and caste at the BNSS. Tickets<br />
£7 per person (£5 concessions).<br />
Sunday 3rd October<br />
2-3pm Artist Diane Roberts will run a children's art workshop with a Shelley theme at the BNSS.<br />
2- 2.45pm Local Historian John Walker talks about the Shelley’s at the Shelley tomb in St Peter's<br />
Church, <strong>Bournemouth</strong> (in <strong>Bournemouth</strong> centre behind Beale's).<br />
3-4pm Writer, David Evans and artist, Dominic Shepherd present Gothic <strong>Bournemouth</strong> at the BNSS.<br />
4-4.30pm “More Mary” at the Mary Shelley pub (opposite St Peter's church) followed by a brief<br />
candlelit vigil around the Shelley tomb, and readings from Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary<br />
Wollstonecraft.<br />
