MICARTA SCALES are sold in pairs that are approx. 1-1/2” wide x 5” long x thickness indicated in item description. PIECES are 5” wide x 12” long x indicated thickness. BLOCKS are 1-1/2” wide x 5” long x 1-1/8” thick. BLOCK PIECES are 5” wide x 12” long x 1-1/8” thick. Normal cutting should produce 4 pairs of scales from a “piece” or 8 blocks from a “block piece”. This usually amounts to a 25% discount if you buy the pieces and do the cutting yourself. PAPER BASED MICARTA This Micarta comes in Ivory, Black, and Butterscotch. The “Ivory” Micarta resembles ivory in color. It is also a very good material for Scrimshaw because its texture does not vary vastly as does the natural material. It has a soft warm grip, even in cold weather. It works very well as a knife handle that is easy to grip when wet. Simply sand to shape with 120 grit and hand finish with 320 grit. DO NOT POLISH! It does not look very good. Also, it seems to work best with Linen Micarta Rods available in black and tan colors on page 4 . Handles are available in 5/16” thickness only. Pieces are 5” x 12”.
