My dear readers,
Wahe guru ji ka khalsa.
Wahe guru ji ki fateh.
Editorial
hough the Basant Utsav (Festival of Spring) was celebrated
on 23rd January but the season of spring (Basant Rut) continues for
two months during which plants grow and flowers bloom. There is
greenary, yellow colour and sweet fragrance all around. Our body
and mind feel fresh. We are always in ecstatic mood. There are
many shabads in Basant Rag in Gurbani. These convey the message
of growing spiritually like the growth of the plants and flowers in
Basant Rut :-
During this period, the elections to Panjab Vidhan Sabha were
held on 13th February and the results were declared on 27th
February. The spirit of Basant Rut was not to be seen during the
hectic election campaigning by both the main parties. There
were lots of mud-slinging and character assassinations on the
stages or through media which were highly degrading, stinking and
deplorable. False promises were made to the voters. Money, liquor
and drugs were freely distributed to win the election. This has
corrupted the moral values of the society. It is heartening to note
that the elections by and large were peaceful and credit goes to
election commission for conducting the election with effective
control and management. Another healthy trend of this election
was that it was not fought on trivial or communal issues rather
each party was talking about its agenda of development,
eradicating corruption and to check the rising prices. Many
stalwarts have been rejected by voters and voters have sent a signal
to the leaders that their performance for the welfare of your
constituency shall be the deciding factor for your re-election.
New government headed by S.Parkash Singh Badal has
declared to develop the state, eradicate corruption, create more
jobs, to bring more industry, to lessen the problems of farmers, to
check rising prices and to help the poor sections of society. We wish
him success.
Holi and Hola Mohalla were celebrated on 3rd March. Guru
Gobind Singh Ji transformed the nature of Holi festival by starting
Hola Mohalla at Anandpur Sahib. The Sikhs were asked to learn the
use of weapons, to ride horses and learn the art of fighting, thereby
a Sikh was imbibed with the martial spirit and became a Sant-
Terrified ! is he, who commits sin, the truthful is ever cheerful
Sipahi. Guru Gobind Singh Study
Circle has revived this spirit of Hola
Mohalla by celebrating at many places
throughout Punjab. It was celebrated
with jest and fervour at five places at
Ludhiana where youth and old ones
took part in physical feats. This is a
good iniative to inculcate the spirit of
physical exercise and to fight the
abuse of drugs.
On the day of Baisakhi of 1699,
Guru Gobind Singh transformed the
spirit of Sant Sipahi which was
created through Hola Mohalla into the
creation of Khalsa. He declared it as
Akal Purakh Ki Fauj and assigned to
the Khalsa the role of spreading
Dharma and to uproot the tyrants by
his own mission of his life:-
On the auspicious day of the birth
of Khalsa, let us introspect whether
we are sincerely adhering to the
teachings of our Guru or paying only
lips-ymphty by arranging Kirtans and
Langars. Let us re-dedicate ourselves
whole-heartedly to the Guru by
knowing his philosophy, teachings,
his sacrifices and his directions to us
to lead a pious life.
