Hot Booking of New Year Eve Dinner
By Lynn Yu
It’s less than a month from the
Spring Festival of the Year
of Snake and many restaurants
are receiving a booming
booking of New Year’s Eve Dinner.
With no doubt, diversified
dishes and varying prices of set
meals are the key words of the
New Year’s Eve Dinner this year.
Beijing—diversified smallsized
set meals
Some time-honored famous
restaurants, such as Quanjude,
Fangshan, Fengzeyuan and Sichuan
Restaurant are embracing
a hot booking of
New Year’s Eve Dinner.
Separate rooms
are extremely hard to
get, and even half of
the lobby seats are
already sold.
To adapt to the
downsizing of families,
some restaurants
introduced small-sized
New Year’s Eve Dinner
for families with only a few
members this year. According to a
person in charge of Fangshan Restaurant,
it will provide guests with
a RMB 298-New Year’s Eve Dinner
set meal at a preferential price
of RMB 268 per capita. What’s
more, Fangshan Restaurant will
be decorated like a palace inside
out, and to add the atmosphere of
festival, many shows with Chinese
characteristics such as face changing,
acrobatics and magic will be
performed in the Ripple Hall of
the restaurant. Fengzeyuan Restaurant
does not provide set meals
for New Year’s Eve Dinner, but
allows guests to freely order dishes.
At the same time, it has invited the
“God of Wealth” to give new year’s
wishes and gifts to guests and invited
folk artisans
to sell works of art
in the restaurant,
to create a joyous
festive atmosphere for
guests.
Guangzhou—local
restaurants more popular
this year, the booking period of New
Year’s Eve Dinner in Guangzhou is much earlier
than prior years. In previous years, guests
make reservations one or two months before
the Spring Festival, but this year they have to
do it half a year in advance. Some people even
paid a deposit for this New Year’s Eve Dinner
a year ago. Lot of restaurants and star hotels
have already been fully booked by now.
Separate rooms of time-honored restaurants,
including Guangzhou Restaurant,
Lucky Restaurant, Panxi Restaurant and
Taotaoju Restaurant, have all been fully
booked. Seats in some old-brand star hotels
like Garden Hotel and Dongfang are also
hard to get. In Yuexiu District and Liwan
District, New Year’s Eve Dinners priced at
RMB 1000 or so and starting at 5:00 p.m.
and 7:30 p.m. were sold out in November
last year.
Ni Hong, Secretary General of
the Guangzhou Restaurant & Catering
Association says that in recent years,
the costs of labor and food materials are
very high, and local restaurants have
more convenience in providing New
Year’s Eve Dinner for so many people
in aspects of procurement channels,
food materials and labors; besides, traditional
diets are much more popular
during the Spring Festival. Therefore,
famous Cantonese cuisine restaurants
are surely the most favorite.
Shanghai—semi-finished set
meals receive hot booking
according to the Evening News,
as the Spring Festival approaches, semifinished
set meals for the New Year’s Eve
Dinner are booked in an increasingly
large amount. We get the information
from Shanghai Restaurants Association
that the sales volume of semi-finished
set meals for New Year’s Eve Dinner are
increasing year by year in Shanghai, and
