BRIEF STATEMENT OF FACTS:<br />
The Commission was one <strong>of</strong> three zonal Commissions appointed in<br />
1994 to inquire into involuntary removals and disappearances since<br />
January 1, 1988.<br />
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS:<br />
Of the fifteen thousand and forty five complaints received, <strong>of</strong> which<br />
several complaints were received in respect to the same person, six<br />
thousand four hundred and forty three complaints were inquired into<br />
and eight thousand six hundred and two complaints were remaining<br />
at the conclusion <strong>of</strong> the Commission. Although the information is<br />
disaggregated in terms <strong>of</strong> the place where the disappearances occurred,<br />
no other disaggregated information (ethnicity, gender, age, occupation,<br />
etc) is provided.<br />
Although the report includes names <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> those the<br />
Commission found to be credibly implicated in involuntary removals/<br />
disappearances, 57 the Commission also sent a confidential list under<br />
separate cover to the President. According to the Commission:<br />
