Mercifully we get through the remainder of the
morning without further incident. Although, just
before lunch, our lecture was interrupted briefly when
we heard an unmistakable sound echoing along the
corridors. Ms Sills, who was conducting our lecture,
just sighed and trailed off. She knows from long
experience that our attention has been momentarily
distracted. Clearly somewhere along the hallway, in
another lecture room, some poor soul is being
absolutely creamed. Ms Sills did not continue to
discuss the roguish shenanigans of Miss Becky Sharp
until the distant beating had been fully executed.
When the bell goes to announce the end of
morning lectures I pack up my books and head-off
back to the landing. Nixdown falls in beside me and
slips her arm into mine.
“How’s the bum?” she asks cheerily.
“Actually it’s still smarting,” I grumble. “Katie
really put her arm into it and my bum wasn’t in great
shapes to start with.”
