A Life in the Day of Rosemary Booker
While we consume our soups and salads I
indulge Nixdown’s whim and give her a detailed
whop-by-whop account of the misfortunes that my
poor beleaguered bum has been forced to endure
over the past eighteen hours. Nix listens somberly,
occasionally she interjects an appropriately
sympathetic observation but I can’t help noticing the
excited twinkle in her eyes. I am not suggesting that
she is gloating over my misfortunes, she just has a
prurient interest in such matters.
We are drinking coffee when Jojo and Debs
come into the cafeteria arm-in-arm. They spot us and
amble over. Jojo is looking in remarkably good spirits
considering that she has only recently been treated to
an epic whopping by the be-yotch Hodge.
Jojo used to be a theatrical producer before
she got banged up for Extreme Ladetting. Since
taking over as Grand Master at the unit Mr Humphries
has encouraged us to take better advantage of our
free-time than our usual habit of entertaining
ourselves by indulging in a frenzy of mischief and
mayhem. While he has not been entirely successful in
achieving this goal we have certainly begun to
distract ourselves with a number of projects. The
most ambitious is project to date is Jojo’s West Side
Story production which includes every inmate as
either an actor, dancer or production assistant.
Jojo and Debs have just come from the Great
Hall where Ginger Beckett is rehearsing some of the
dance troupe. By all accounts the dancers are coming
