Our commitment/next steps<br />
As the Department of Educati<strong>on</strong> values educati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> heritage<br />
tourism, and appreciates its effect of improving the people’s ec<strong>on</strong>omic<br />
and social well-being, it is thus committed to the following acti<strong>on</strong>s:<br />
• Promote strategies to educate the communities about the<br />
importance of preserving and protecting nati<strong>on</strong>al heritage and<br />
cultural practices and values;<br />
• Support the strengthening and capacity-building of educators<br />
involved in the planning and delivery of tourism educati<strong>on</strong> in the<br />
country;<br />
• Develop instructi<strong>on</strong>al materials for students to help promote<br />
greater c<strong>on</strong>sciousness and appreciati<strong>on</strong> of heritage tourism;<br />
• Coordinate with different stakeholders in the development of<br />
programmes to create awareness of nati<strong>on</strong>al and community<br />
assets, which can be used for tourism purposes to reduce poverty,<br />
especially in rural communities, and;<br />
Rosalie B. Masilang is a Senior Educati<strong>on</strong> Programme<br />
Specialist at the Curriculum Development Divisi<strong>on</strong>, Bureau of<br />
Sec<strong>on</strong>dary Educati<strong>on</strong>, Department of Educati<strong>on</strong>, Philippines.<br />
She has been involved in the implementati<strong>on</strong> of the Special<br />
Programme for the Arts in which the competencies of teachers<br />
and students in the different fields of arts are enhanced. In additi<strong>on</strong>,<br />
she is working closely with different government and n<strong>on</strong>government<br />
organisati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> climate change and populati<strong>on</strong><br />
educati<strong>on</strong> programmes.<br />
