The Monthly National Legislation Reporthttp://mnlreport.typepad.com/Page 178 of 3307/5/2010ignorant of farming practices, not the least in relation to the castration of male lambs shortly after birth and the docking of their tails in the interests of welfare considerations. This is now becominga topic that is moving up the public agenda, with several animal rights pressure groups pressing for a rethink. Practical sheep farmers would argue their case forcefully and are broadly supported byProfessor Christopher Wathes, the chairman of FAWC.Manchester - (6/29/09) - The backbench Bill from the House of Commons proposes to amend the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and is supported by the Labour MP Angela Smith as well as the Labour Parliamentcandidate for Crewe and Nantwich, David Williams. The Bill is partly being promoted in response to a campaign by the Communication Workers’ Union, the Bite Back campaign. Mr Williams commented:“Postal workers should be legally protected from dangerous dogs. I fully support the CWU’s campaign to strengthen the provisions of the Dangerous Dogs Act. I was shocked to hear that over 6,000postal workers were attacked by dogs in the course of their duties last year.“I am also aware that there are many other workers at risk like shop delivery drivers, gas, water and electricity workers, district nurses, home helps, meals on wheels volunteers, etc.“I know that the vast majority of dog owners are responsible and this Bill is not about punishing them. However, we do need to tackle the few dogs that attack when unprovoked. I have had manyencounters with aggressive dogs when out door-knocking and leafleting. So I have a lot of empathy with postal workers on this issue and they have my full support.”We published an article earlier this year about how the Dangerous Dog Act 1991 was to be replaced with a new Act to emphasise the responsibility upon dog owners rather than the breed of dog itself. It seems only fair that the Dangerous Dog Act should be replaced.Comments (0) | TrackBack (0)June 29, 2009June 2009IN THIS ISSUE:JOINING HANDS !HOW TO UNITE & BECOME VISIBLE & UPDATE WITH LISTINGSFEATURE ARTICLE BY MARC FOLCO - "FIRING BACK AT THE CRITICS"EQUUIVOX - THE VOICE OF HORSE OWNERSNRA'S CURRENT LEGISLATION LISTINGSAKC'S GOVERNMENT RELATIONS -2009 LEGISLATIVE TRACKING SITE - UPDATED DAILYFEDERAL LEGISLATION - SHOULD CONGRESS REGULATE YOUR INTERNET SERVICE PLAN?STATE LEGISLATION - BY STATE IN ALPHABETICAL ORDERNext month, you'll be able to click on the contents to be taken to that section, but for now...Scroll, Scroll, Scroll !!JOINING HANDS WITH US THIS MONTH ...We are extremely pleased to welcome the following new linkees into the trenches ...Rescue: Pits & Rotts for Life Rescue, Inc.Businesses: All City DogsAgricultural: The Fur CommissionAG RIGHTSMAN IN NATUREFARM TO CONSUMER LEGAL DEFENSE FUNDEquine: United Organizations of the HorseState Pet Law: Oregon Pet LawResponsible Animal Owners of AlabamaPLENTY ROOM IN THE TRENCHES FOR MORE .... !!!!Last month, we sent out the following:HOW TO UNITE AND BECOME VISIBLESo far, 2009 has had an overwhelming amount of proposed animal legislation.
