Petroleum Development Oman LLCRevision: 3.0Effective: 1 Apr 20097.11 Pre-Employment ExaminationsAll proposed new employees shall undergo a pre-employment medical examination.If pre-employment examination is not feasible to be conducted by a <strong>PDO</strong> <strong>Medical</strong>Officer, then a <strong>PDO</strong>-approved <strong>Medical</strong> Practitioner (refer to Appendix L) can be used.The examining <strong>Medical</strong> Practitioner should conduct all the medical <strong>examinations</strong> inaccordance with the requirements stipulated in this <strong>specification</strong> and sign the <strong>Medical</strong>Examination Report, EX1 (refer to Appendix R).A firm offer of employment shall not be made until an opinion on whether the person isfit for the job, including any restrictions, has been communicated to management by theexamining doctor.7.12 Pre-Placement ExaminationsA <strong>PDO</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> Officer shall be consulted in the following circumstances to determine ifa pre-placement medical examination of an individual is required:Line management is concerned that a person may not be medically fit for aplanned job change; orAn employee is planned for a job change involving work tasks that they are notrequired to perform in their existing position.The person shall not be placed in a new position until an opinion on whether the personis fit for the job, including any restrictions, has been communicated to management bythe examining <strong>PDO</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> Officer.7.13 <strong>Medical</strong> BoardA <strong>Medical</strong> Board shall be convened to assess the fitness of an individual to continue ina particular job position if an individual has or appears to have a medical problem that issignificantly affecting their performance at work.The employee himself or his direct supervisor/manager may request referral to the<strong>Medical</strong> board, if an individual has, or appears to have, a medical problem that issignificantly affecting their performance at work.For a case to be referred to the <strong>Medical</strong> Board, a <strong>PDO</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> Officer has torecommend that a <strong>Medical</strong> Board is the most appropriate course of action and <strong>PDO</strong>'sChief <strong>Medical</strong> Officer has to approve the recommendationIn situations where a <strong>Medical</strong> Board decides that a person shall be assigned a categoryC medical classification (unfit), medical severance award shall be considered.
