Petroleum Development Oman LLCRevision: 3.0Effective: 1 Apr 2009With cause evaluation: A with cause evaluation is one where an “off-schedule” reviewof fitness to work is carried out. An essential element of any FTW program is thecapacity to review and repeat an assessment of an employee‟s fitness to work betweenregularly scheduled evaluations. Examples of circumstances when a “with cause”evaluation may be appropriate include, but are not confined to:Return to work after illness or commencing new medication.Referral by a supervisor following observed behaviour in the workplace e.g.failing to complete a task appropriately.Self-referral by an employee with concerns over fitness to work.Following an incident or accident in the workplace where it is considered fitnessto work may have been a factor.7.15.6 Principles of <strong>Medical</strong> Evaluation of Fitness to Work<strong>Medical</strong> evaluations of fitness to work are not voluntary and must be distinguishedfrom health promotion, health surveillance related to workplace exposures and / orhealth and wellness evaluations. An employee, who refuses to participate in a requiredmedical evaluation as part of the fitness to work process, shall be temporarily declaredunfit for that position and referred to human resources and / or line management.<strong>Medical</strong> evaluations for fitness to work may be rationally combined with other visits to amedical facility for either health surveillance and or health promotion but the mandatoryelements of the fitness to work programme must not be confused with other voluntaryelements.Page 31 SP-1230 : Specification for <strong>Medical</strong> Examination, Treatment & Facilities Printed 25-Sep-08The controlled version of this CMF Document resides online in Livelink®.
