However, the number of grains perpanicle decreased under DWSR (Tables 7 and 9). Because grain size in rice is usuallya stable parameter, grain yield is determined by the total number of grains per unitarea (Husain et al 2003), which is the product of the number of panicles per m 2 andthe number of grains per panicle. Figure 1 shows that grain yield is correlated withthe number of grains per unit area.Bangladeshi experiences with a drum seeder for direct wet seeding of rice 83
