2 Safety Instructions2.3 Warning Signs on the InstrumentHazardThis symbol calls attention to the fact that other hazards can occur, e.g. duringsample handling. Follow the instructions.Warning symbol "Hazard" on the <strong>Lovis</strong> capillary block:Fig. 2 - 2Symbol "Hazard" on the <strong>Lovis</strong> capillary block• Handling caustic liquids, acids, or biologically hazardous, easily inflammableliquids etc. involves a serious health risk for the operator. Use appropriateprotective equipment (protective gloves, safety goggles, protective clothing,fume hood...).• When switching on the <strong>Lovis</strong> <strong>2000</strong> M/<strong>ME</strong> instrument, the <strong>Lovis</strong> capillaryblock moves into the physical end position (initialization). The moving blockcould possibly squeeze your fingers. Touching the moving block might leadto clamping or displacement of the zero position. Do not touch the moving<strong>Lovis</strong> capillary block or bring parts of your body or objects near it.• Switch off the instrument before moving the <strong>Lovis</strong> capillary block by hand!• Risk of burns at measuring temperatures above 60 °C at the insert openingsof the <strong>Lovis</strong> capillary block and on the capillary. Do not remove the hotcapillary and do not touch the insert openings of the <strong>Lovis</strong> capillary blockwhen hot. Either use adequate protective gloves or cool down the<strong>Lovis</strong> <strong>2000</strong> M/<strong>ME</strong> to a temperature significantly below 60 °C before touchingthese parts with bare hands.• Due to thermal expansion of the sample at elevated measuringtemperatures, the plugs which seal the capillary after filling manually outsidethe <strong>Lovis</strong> capillary block may pop off. Risk of burns or injury caused by hot,toxic or aggressive liquid splashes. Risk of injury caused by the popping offplug. To prevent that, always attach the closed screw cap front side and backside for this filling method. Refer to the instructions in Chapter 9.1.18 C72IB002EN-E
