JUBILEEPRESENTATIONSFORMER MARKRULER GIVENCRAFT HONOURMILESTONE FOR AGREAT STALWARTLIGHTCLIFFE Mark Lodge helpedcelebrate a Mark <strong>Masonic</strong> milestone forone <strong>of</strong> its stalwart members.V W Bro James Paterson Greenwoodflew from his home in Cyprus to be guest<strong>of</strong> honour and many old friends attended,including Provincial Grand Master R WBro James Bennett Truswell, and theAssistant Provincial Grand Master, W BroJohn Fred Clough, together with aProvincial team, to mark Jim’s 60th year inMark Masonry.The PGM took V W Bro Greenwoodback to the time he joined the Mark Orderin a lighthearted trip down memory laneand in doing so got a couple <strong>of</strong> dateswrong, picked up very quickly by Jim,much to the amusement <strong>of</strong> those presentR W Bro Truswell invited one <strong>of</strong> V W BroGreenwood’s oldest colleagues to presentthe Certificate from Grand Lodge and RW Bro James Bramley Morley, Past PGM,did so in his usual quiet manner, and asincere, moving presentation was greatlyappreciated by the recipient.The PGM presented a Provincial GrandLodge certificate and in doing so thankedV W Bro Greenwood for his past service tothe <strong>Province</strong>, which was greeted withacclamation.Sadly, at the close <strong>of</strong> the Festive Board,V W Bro Greenwood became ill and wastaken to hospital, where he stayed forseveral days for tests. Happily, he is nowback home in Cyprus where he is still verymuch involved in Masonry.W Bro Greenwood is pictured with R WBro Truswell and W Bro CloughASSISTANT Provincial Grand MasterW Bro Anthony B Brailsford describedit as an “historic occasion” when hepresented W Bro Philip Birch, PJGD,with a 50-year jubilee certificate.The presentation took place at WBro Birch’s mother Lodge,Rotherwood No <strong>43</strong>92 earlier this year.W Bro Birch has enjoyed adistinguished <strong>Masonic</strong> career in manyOrders in addition to Craft andChapter Masonry, most notably beingProvincial Grand Master in the Markdegree from 1994-99 after serving asdeputy for five years prior.A Grand Officer in Craft, Chapter,Mark and Royal Ark Mariners, W BroBirch enjoyed a spectacular andmeteoric rise since the day he wasInitiated into Rotherwood Lodge in1961. His first Provincial Appointmentwas as Grand Pursuivant in 1986,promoted PPJGW three years later,with Grand Rank (PAGDC) conferredin 1990 and PJGD in 1999.A volunteer for the Indian Army in1942, he was subsequentlycommissioned into the 1st KGV’sOwn Gurkha Rifles and retired with therank <strong>of</strong> captain.W Bro Birch, an auctioneer andvaluer, was made a Freeman <strong>of</strong> theCity <strong>of</strong> London in 1997.
