TWIN CELEBRATIONSARE WELL RECEIVEDDONCASTER’S Priory Place enjoyed twocelebrations as two much respectedBrethren received recognition for theircontribution to Freemasonry in the town.In a planned celebration to mark his50th year as a Royal Arch Mason, EComp R A “Bob” Burkett, PPGSN,received a 50th Jubilee Certificate from EComp Anthony Kaddish, PG StdB,Assistant to the Provincial GrandPrincipals.The Companions <strong>of</strong> Don Valley ChapterNo 3890 were delighted as E Comp Boboutlined his life outside Freemasonry,ranging from his first job, aged 14, as abutcher’s lad, his service both in the RoyalArtillery and British Rail during the warthrough to his retirement as a farmer.E Comp Kaddish described E CompBurkett’s contribution to Freemasonry inDoncaster and referred, in particular, tothe presentation <strong>of</strong> a Craft 50th JubileeCertificate by W Bro Tony Brailsford sometwo years ago in Hall Cross Lodge No5744.E Comp Burkett was Installed as FirstPrincipal <strong>of</strong> Don Valley Chapter by hisfather in 1975.EX-CRICKETERIS 50 NOT OUTTHE R W Provincial Grand Master,John K Clayton, was pleased toaward a jubilee certificate to W BroJ Michael Parker for services toCraft masonry and thepresentation was undertaken by WBro Tony Brailsford, AssistantPGM at a regular meeting <strong>of</strong> theKeresforth Lodge No 7641.W Bro Parker was Initiated intoKeresforth in June 1960 and wasMaster in 1970.His father, W Bro H Alan Parker,was Master <strong>of</strong> Mirfield Lodge No1102 in 1961 and was a Foundermember <strong>of</strong> Keresforth Lodge.Together they have given over 90years service to the <strong>Province</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Yorkshire</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>Riding</strong>.Michael Parker was a cricketer,having played for Doncaster andBarnsley for many years in the<strong>Yorkshire</strong> League. He was seniorpartner in the family business <strong>of</strong>Insurance Brokers until hisretirement.E Comp Burkett, centre, with E Comp V Outram andE Comp M R C RickettsW Bro E C "Bob" Chapman, PPSGW,with V W Bro Jack PigottIN contrast, a promotion for W Bro E C “Bob” Chapman was totally unexpected.The Brethren and visitors at the March meeting <strong>of</strong> Don Valley Lodge 3890 were a littlesurprised by the arrival <strong>of</strong> V W Bro Jack Pigott, Deputy Provincial Grand Master, whobriefly outlined W Bro Chapman’s contribution to Doncaster Freemasonry in general –he is a leading member <strong>of</strong> Don Valley Chapter, 3890, Ivanhoe Chapter, 276, Rose Croixand Grey Friars Preceptory, 265, Knights Templar – and to Don Valley Lodge in particular.V W Bro Pigott was pleased to promote W Bro Chapman to Past Provincial SeniorGrand Warden on behalf <strong>of</strong> the R W Provincial Grand Master.ELDER STATESMAN’S DIAMOND JUBILEETHE elder statesman <strong>of</strong> Kirklees Lodge No 4710, W Bro Henry Brian Walker,PPJGW, celebrated 60 years in Freemasonry earlier this year.And the R W Provincial Grand Master, John K Clayton, was pleased to presentW Bro Walker with his diamond jubilee certificate.W Bro Walker was born in 1930 and brought up in Brighouse and Batley, theson <strong>of</strong> a haulage contractor and coal merchant. Educated at Bradford GrammarSchool and Leeds Business College, he served at Tangmere on National Servicewith the RAF.After demob, he began work in the family business but over the years hediversified, and became involved in opencast mining, liquefied gas distribution,metal recovery and quarrying. He retired in 1993.He joined Kirklees Lodge No 4710 in 1951 when his father was Master. W BroWalker was Master at Kirklees in 1985 and again in 1989, also progressing throughJ and H chairs to become First Principal in Mirfield Chapter No 1102 in 1995.W Bro Walker is also a founder member <strong>of</strong> Woodsmoke Lodge No 9317.In retirement, with family and friends, he has taken to the water in his own motorcruiser travelling down to and through France to Monte Carlo and back, as well asacross the North Sea to visit all the countries <strong>of</strong> the Baltic.
