NEWS OF THE 2017RMBI FESTIVAL . . .THE R W Provincial Grand Master, John KClayton, has announced that <strong>Province</strong> willhost a Festival for the Royal <strong>Masonic</strong>Benevolent Institution and this will belaunched at the annual meeting <strong>of</strong>Provincial Grand Lodge in May 2012.The Festival will culminate in 2017 andR W Bro Clayton says that a FestivalAppeal Committee will be formed whichwill take responsibility for all aspects <strong>of</strong> therunning <strong>of</strong> the Festival, from start to finish.This will be under the chairmanship <strong>of</strong>W Bro John Boyington CBE, PPSGD, aPast Master <strong>of</strong> St Philip’s Lodge No 7116and the Lodge <strong>of</strong> South <strong>Yorkshire</strong> No9633.“I will not be setting targets, but I dohope that Brethren and Companions willcontinue giving at present levels, inaddition to specific fund raising activitieswithin each Area. I will be appointingFestival Managers for each Area <strong>of</strong> the<strong>Province</strong> and they will be responsible totheir APGM and manage all aspects <strong>of</strong> the2017 Festival Appeal in that Area. Theywill also be members <strong>of</strong> the FestivalAppeal Committee,” said the PGM.“Festivals are an important part <strong>of</strong><strong>Masonic</strong> life and I hope and trust thateveryone will give their full support.”W Bro Boyington said:“It is a great honour to be asked to takethis role forward for the next six years andI am grateful for the confidence placed inme. The RMBI needs our support,especially during the challenging timesahead and I am sure the Masons <strong>of</strong><strong>Yorkshire</strong>, <strong>West</strong> <strong>Riding</strong> will rise to thechallenge in their usual way.”He explains that work has alreadybegun to set up the structures and means<strong>of</strong> supporting our fund raising over the fiveyears <strong>of</strong> the Festival.“ I know Brethren across the <strong>Province</strong>will be keen to get involved but I wouldask them to be patient whilst we sortthrough all the details. We will be usingevery means available to let membersknow how they can help once the detailsare worked through.”• W Bro Boyington is in his 40th year inhealth services. Working for many yearsin his hometown <strong>of</strong> Sheffield, he foundhimself first in Leicester, then London andnow Manchester.Having reached the position <strong>of</strong> DeputyChief Executive <strong>of</strong> Sheffield HealthAuthority, John moved to Leicester in1997 to be Chief Executive <strong>of</strong> what wasW Bro John Boyingtonthen the UK’s largest Community andMental Health services NHS Trust.After three years in this role he wasrecruited to design and deliver a nationalprogramme <strong>of</strong> reforms to England’sprisoner health service working jointly tothe Department <strong>of</strong> Health and the HomeOffice and latterly Ministry <strong>of</strong> Justice.These reforms culminated in the transfer<strong>of</strong> responsibility for these services to theNHS.During his time in London John wasalso Director <strong>of</strong> the World HealthOrganisation’s European collaboratingcentre for the Health in Prisons workingacross 36 countries visiting, lecturing andconsulting widely across Europe and theUSA.John was presented with an award forOutstanding Achievement by the WHO in2005 and in 2007 was made a CBE forservices to health.
