6 – C waste repository zone6.3.3.2 Disposal package assemblyDisposal packages are assembled in a shielded cell:The first operation consists of loading the primary package of vitrified waste into the container.Functional clearance provides an easy vertical loading by getting rid of container manufacture andprimary package tolerances. The lid is then placed on the container body. The assembly is theninserted into a vacuum chamber as vacuum is required for electron beam welding. Oncecompleted, welding is then tested, with the disposal package placed in another shielded cell.An appropriate weld surface test procedure, routinely used by manufacturers, consists of visualinspection with video camera.
