FINANCIAL ASSISTANCETh.M/Ph.D. ProgramsLimited financial assistance is available to Ph.D. students in the form <strong>of</strong> advancedgradu<strong>at</strong>e tuition scholarships and fellowships.Tuition scholarships are awarded in amounts sufficient to cover a certainpercentage <strong>of</strong> the total tuition for courses toward the doctoral degree and forup to two years <strong>of</strong> continuing rel<strong>at</strong>ions fees. Tuition scholarships are generallyawarded for the first four years <strong>of</strong> the Ph.D. program. Students apply for tuitionscholarships <strong>at</strong> the same time th<strong>at</strong> they complete the applic<strong>at</strong>ion for admissioninto the Ph.D. program. Admission to the Ph.D. program does not guaranteefinancial assistance, however.Several fellowships are also awarded to LSTC doctoral students each year. TheWilliam J. and Elizabeth M. Danker Fellowship and the Eleanor and Arnold SchererFellowship are both design<strong>at</strong>ed for intern<strong>at</strong>ional students. The Robert MarshallGradu<strong>at</strong>e Fellowship is awarded to North American students. These fellowships areawarded for a one-year period on the basis <strong>of</strong> merit. Students are nomin<strong>at</strong>ed by thefaculty divisions. Other awards design<strong>at</strong>ed for LSTC Ph.D. students include theIntern<strong>at</strong>ional Women’s Scholarship, the Palestinian Christian Scholarship, and theRalph W. Klein Fellowship in Biblical Studies. Fellowships and scholarships may beused to cover course tuition or living expenses, as the student sees fit.<strong>Lutheran</strong> intern<strong>at</strong>ional students seeking financial support should applythrough their n<strong>at</strong>ional church to the Director for Intern<strong>at</strong>ional LeadershipDevelopment, Global Mission Unit, Evangelical <strong>Lutheran</strong> Church in America,8765 West Higgins Road, <strong>Chicago</strong>, IL 60631, USA. Specificinform<strong>at</strong>ion is available from the Advanced Studies Office.Student Employment OpportunitiesThe seminary assumes th<strong>at</strong> a normal load <strong>of</strong> courses requires full-time study.However, it recognizes th<strong>at</strong> many students find it necessary to seek part-timeemployment. The seminary maintains a file <strong>of</strong> job opportunities for studentsseeking part-time work and spouses seeking full-time employment.Many <strong>of</strong> the available <strong>of</strong>f-campus jobs are within walking distance <strong>of</strong> thecampus. The seminary itself employs a number <strong>of</strong> students on its maintenancecrew, in the library and food service, as faculty assistants, and in part-time clericalpositions.
