Chingboi Guite, Th.M./Ph.D.As Chingboi earned herundergraduate degree inzoology, it came to her that sheshould study theology. Unsureof this call, she pursued threeoptions while she prayed anddiscerned where God wasleading her. Chingboi took theexam to enter graduate schoolin zoology and also the one tostudy theology as she looked for a job.Following her desire for a cross-cultural experience,Chingboi applied to Tokyo Christian University. While there, shefound a mentor and a desire to continue her studies in theology.Both led her to Chicago.“My mentor in Tokyo had studied at the University ofChicago and knew of the ACTS system here. He recommendedthat I apply to schools in Chicago.”“The professors at LSTC are very understanding. I comefrom an evangelical Baptist church and am preparing to go backto meet the needs of my church. The faculty understand this. Theyare open to helping me to strengthen what I want to say ratherthan telling me to do things a certain way. I want to contribute ina meaningful way to what my church needs.”“LSTC is a very Christ-centered place. The spiritual sideof what happens here is as important as the academics. Evenin the advanced studies classes, we’ll have a deep academicdiscussion and then the professor will ask, ‘What does thismean to us as a believing community?’ What we learn is not justan academic exercise, it needs to apply back to us as a faithcommunity.”31
