The year <strong>of</strong> studies <strong>at</strong> LSTC may take a variety <strong>of</strong> forms,depending on a student’s educ<strong>at</strong>ional background, ecclesiastical experience, and therecommend<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>of</strong> the student’s candidacy committee.A prototypical course <strong>of</strong> studies for students includes Church HistoryII (which includes the study <strong>of</strong> American/<strong>Lutheran</strong> church history), a coursespecializing in the theology <strong>of</strong> Luther, a course(s) in system<strong>at</strong>ic theology, worship,preaching, senior interdisciplinary seminar and other courses as desired by thestudent, the candidacy committee, or the school.The Candidacy Manual st<strong>at</strong>es th<strong>at</strong> the “internship year must be scheduledin consult<strong>at</strong>ion with the candidacy committee and the ELCA-affili<strong>at</strong>edseminary. The internship may follow the completion <strong>of</strong> the M.Div. degree <strong>at</strong>a non-ELCA seminary prior to the year <strong>of</strong> study <strong>at</strong> an ELCA seminary, or itmay follow the year <strong>of</strong> study <strong>at</strong> an ELCA seminary. Four hundred hours <strong>of</strong>supervised clinical ministry is also a requirement for all candid<strong>at</strong>es for ordainedministry.”The <strong>Lutheran</strong> year is for the purpose <strong>of</strong> form<strong>at</strong>ion as well as educ<strong>at</strong>ion.Students completing the <strong>Lutheran</strong> year are assigned a faculty advisor and expectedto particip<strong>at</strong>e fully in seminary activities as part <strong>of</strong> the form<strong>at</strong>ion process, includingparticip<strong>at</strong>ion in seminary and Growth in Faith <strong>of</strong>ferings.Students who fulfill eight courses for the <strong>Lutheran</strong> year or as a part <strong>of</strong>49
