The year of studies at LSTC may take a variety of forms,depending on a student’s educational background, ecclesiastical experience, and therecommendations of the student’s candidacy committee.A prototypical course of studies for students includes Church HistoryII (which includes the study of American/Lutheran church history), a coursespecializing in the theology of Luther, a course(s) in systematic theology, worship,preaching, senior interdisciplinary seminar and other courses as desired by thestudent, the candidacy committee, or the school.The Candidacy Manual states that the “internship year must be scheduledin consultation with the candidacy committee and the ELCA-affiliatedseminary. The internship may follow the completion of the M.Div. degree ata non-ELCA seminary prior to the year of study at an ELCA seminary, or itmay follow the year of study at an ELCA seminary. Four hundred hours ofsupervised clinical ministry is also a requirement for all candidates for ordainedministry.”The Lutheran year is for the purpose of formation as well as education.Students completing the Lutheran year are assigned a faculty advisor and expectedto participate fully in seminary activities as part of the formation process, includingparticipation in seminary and Growth in Faith offerings.Students who fulfill eight courses for the Lutheran year or as a part of49
