<strong>Class</strong> <strong>Notes</strong>1967–1970Neil Meade, after more than 30years in private practice as a primarycare physician in Maryland, accepted aposition with Indian Health Services onthe Navajo reservation in New Mexico.Neil had always wanted to work withNative Americans, even though it meantgiving up his suburban Maryland lifefor life on the high desert plains of NewMexico. So far, he says, “It has been anamazing and enriching experience.”On March 1, Andy Sirpis succumbedto brain cancer. A government and lawgraduate, he was president of KappaSigma during his junior and senior years.Andy participated in ROTC, served twoyears in the Army, and was dischargedwith the rank of captain. He thenearned his master’s in management fromRensselaer and became a financial plannerfor Connecticut General Life InsuranceCo. He retired from its successorcompany, Lincoln Financial, in 2006.He then became COO for WashingtonGroup, a subsidiary of MassachusettsMutual, where he remained until hisdeath.Andy began dating his future wife,Helene Scourby, while an undergraduate.One of the first in the class to marry, heand Helene were married for nearly 44years. They have two sons. Alexander, aregional director of Carfax, and his wife,Hilery, have two children, Kate andHayden. Matthew, his wife, Rebecca, andtheir son, Leo, were awaiting an additionto their family in September. Matthew isa financial planner with SagemarkConsulting.Andy was a devoted father, an avidgolfer, a gardener, woodworker, andwonderful chef. He took pleasure inbeing a mentor in the field of financialplanning and saw many of those hementored become successful.Bob Halsted passed away May 15.Bob was an English graduate and amember of Sigma Phi Chi. Following<strong>Lafayette</strong>, Bob graduated from UnionTheological Seminary and later workedfor the City of New York Departmentof City Planning. Bob’s sister, Carol,a niece, and a nephew survive him.Gary Kralik died unexpectedly athis home in Oxnard, Calif., Dec. 19.Following his graduation with a degreein metallurgical engineering, Garyworked for Allegheny Ludlum inPittsburgh. He later was a seniormaterials engineer for the NavalFacilities Engineering Command inPort Hueneme, Calif. Most recently,he worked as supervisory industrialengineer for Barstow Marine CorpsLogistics Base. Gary’s mother, Anna,and sister, Judith A. Sterner, survive him.1968Howard S. Rednor984 S. Beforejoining The Rockefeller Group, he wasassociated with the New York City lawfirm of Thacher Proffitt & Wood. Hejoined Rockefeller Group in 1980 asassistant vice president and real estatecounsel. In October 2002, he wasnamed president and chief executiveofficer. He was named vice chair inJanuary 2009.In his role, Jon is active informulating the strategic planning forthe company and its subsidiaries. He isa member of the board of directors ofboth his company and Annaly CapitalManagement Inc. He also serves onthe board of trustees for threeorganizations: Museum for AfricanArt, <strong>Lafayette</strong> Leadership Council,and Wildlife Conservation Society.Joe Cox continues as headmasterof The Haverford (Pa.) School. Hepublished a June 17 op-ed essay in ThePhiladelphia Inquirer, “Why Men Don’tHold Hands.” Joe compares and contraststwo articles and a study to examine thenature of male friendship. He also alludesto his relationship with his own father, “atough man who lived a tough life.” Joealso continues to serve as a member of<strong>Lafayette</strong>’s Board of Trustees.Chuck Metzger lives in the Tampaarea, having survived a 2004 heartattack. He has an artificial hip andanticipates a right knee replacement, allof which he attributes to his days as anathlete. Chuck keeps active with twopart-time jobs and seven grandchildren.Dave Stone and his wife, Nancy,have four grown children, onegrandchild, and two more on the way.A few years ago, he began a secondcareer after working for Harvard’sSchool of Engineering and AppliedScience and then MIT. He took coursesat Harvard Medical School and becamea licensed psychologist in Georgia,where he is now in private practice.He is also a pastoral counselor andvolunteers to see patients at his church.Dave sometimes uses virtual reality intreating patients with post-traumaticstress disorder. Dave and a friend havea virtual reality entertainment companythat produces music videos, some ofwhich were shown at ShanghaiExhibition Center.Ted and Rosemary Veresink becamegrandparents for the first time June 24.Daughter Sandra ’02 and her husband,Robert Kovacs, are the proud parents ofKian Michael. Ted serves as presidentelectof Lehigh Valley Alumni Chapterand is on various committees and boardsassociated with the <strong>College</strong>.1969Michael L.
