<strong>Class</strong> <strong>Notes</strong>1981are almost-empty nesters. Their eldestson, Kevin, who graduated from Dukein 2009, works as a civil engineer forSkanska USA and lives in New YorkCity. Daughter Alison just graduatedfrom Wake Forest but planned toreturn there in the fall to complete afifth-year master’s in accounting, afterwhich she will work for one of the BigFour firms in New York City. SonConnor is a sophomore at ElonUniversity. Laurie obtained herinsurance license three years ago andnow works part time in Bill’s agency,Mintz Girgan & Brightly Inc., in thepersonal lines department.The Brightlys frequently see Leo ’80and Laura Massey Magrath, who livenearby in Ridgewood, N.J. The Magrathshave two sons, Cole, who graduatedfrom Georgetown in 2010 and worksin finance in New York City, and Taylor,a junior at Washington & Lee <strong>College</strong>.The Brightlys also get together withPhil and Susan Bollman Duvall atleast once a year. Phil is the owner ofPittsburgh Tank Corp., and Susan workspart time at Chemco, a related business.The Duvalls live in Pittsburgh with theirthree children, Andrea ’12 and twinsPhilip (first year at Cornell) and Chloe(first year at Vanderbilt).Dave Rappaport has two children incollege, daughter Ali ’13 and son Ben, asenior at American University. Dave isU.S. CEO of an international specialistbank and is in a new rock musical, whichkeeps him busy. He travels to the U.K.often. Dave went back to <strong>Lafayette</strong> andtaught one class for Ilan Peleg, CharlesA. Dana Professor of Government andLaw. Ali was a student in the class.Dave’s wife, Cheryl, is a divorce lawyer.Dave and Cheryl are moving back toNew York City and just bought a place.Tony Fernandez joined PinnacleFoods, Parsippany, N.J., as chief supplychain officer, responsible for procurement,manufacturing, distribution, customerservice, planning, engineering, and qualityassurance. He previously worked atCadbury for 12 years and then Kraft forone year, helping to integrate Cadburyafter the acquisition by Kraft in 2010.Sue DePhillips Fernandez ’83 and Tonyhave been married for 26 years and havelived in Ridgefield, Conn., for the last 10years. Their daughters are Christina, asenior at <strong>College</strong> of Holy Cross; Elise, afirst-year student at Notre DameUniversity; and Anna, a seventh grader.Michelle Math Bross and husbandBob have lived in Mount Laurel, N.J.,for the past 24 years. Michelle is anoffice manager for IT Evolution, aconsulting and management companybased in Camden, N.J. Bob is a familyphysician in Columbus, N.J. Son Zack,23, graduated from RensselaerPolytechnic Institute last year and isworking on his master’s in education atDrexel University to teach physics. SonAri, 19, is studying electrical engineeringand is an emergency medical technicianat Rowan University. Michelle getstogether a few times a year with AnaDuarte McCarthy, Monica SullivanDoyle, Laurie Stull Geosits, BernieMaher Flanigan, Sharon Donegan,and Wendy Miller Hart.Adrienne and Dillard Kirby’sdaughter, Lizzie ’13, and son, Stark, ahigh school junior, live in Mendham, N.J.Dillard keeps in touch with classmatesKevin Livesey, Bob McKeown, andRich Schreiber. Condolences to Dillardand his family on the passing of his father,Fred M. Kirby II, age 91, Feb. 8.Ana Duarte McCarthy has been chiefdiversity officer at Citigroup since 2002and has nearly 17 years at the company.Daughter Alissa is a high school junior,plays field hockey, and is on the skiteam. She spent two weeks this pastsummer training at Mt. Hood, Ore.Ana’s husband, Mike, sold his businessand started a home inspection business.They live in Basking Ridge, N.J.Barry Brown enjoyed the 30threunion, after which he and fiveclassmates extended the weekend withgolf at Martha’s Vineyard: George Tiger,Mike Glynn, Kevin Buzard, DougCiabotti, and Bernie Fitzgerald. Barryand wife Jeannie live in Morristown, N.J.,where she is a teacher at The Peck Schooland Barry works as a consultant forMercer. Son Eoin graduated fromVanderbilt, and lived in Shanghai, China,this summer, where he won an award foran internship. He studied Mandarin atVanderbilt and twice studied in China,once for an entire semester in Shanghai.At the end of July, daughter Garethreturned from Europe, where she spenther junior spring semester in Paris,studying fashion. She planned to returnfor her senior year at Syracuse Universityto complete her degree in fashion design.Daughter Kelsey is a sophomore atUniversity of North Carolina–ChapelHill. Barry looked forward to returningto <strong>Lafayette</strong> this fall to watch the men’ssoccer team play and to participate in theannual alumni soccer game.Sharon Tchon Gruet has lived inthe Boston area for 11 years and worksfor Chicos. Her son, Andrew, graduatedfrom Emory; second son Michael isin a master’s program at RensselaerPolytechnic Institute; daughter Nicoleis a junior at University of Vermont;and second daughter Nathalie is in herfirst year at Wellesley.Greg and Amy Bloom Mulfordattended reunion on Saturday. Theireldest daughter, Katie, graduated fromMuhlenberg <strong>College</strong> and plans to marryin 2013. Sarah ’10 transitioned from asuccessful career-beginning stint at RalphLauren to PricewaterhouseCoopers incompliance/data assurance. Rebecca’12 spent her spring semester abroad inBarcelona and interned for MTV/TeenNick in New York City over the summer.Emily ’15 is in her first year at<strong>Lafayette</strong>. Three children attending/graduated from <strong>Lafayette</strong> may be a classrecord. Son Michael is in his first year inhigh school. Greg and Amy are in thefinal stages of building a “new, oldhome” in Green Village/Harding (N.J.)Township.Joe “Ricky” Godwin is a directorof the private bank Credit Suisse inPhiladelphia and lives in Yardley, Pa.Ricky and wife Eileen celebrated their26th anniversary in July. Son Andrew,23, lives and works in New York City,and daughter Sarah, 17, is a highschool senior.Christine Agocs Bucca saw aproduction of Hairspray performed inRoosevelt Park in Edison, N.J. As Chrisread the program, she saw the name“Moggie Bakes” (Margaret BakesDavis). Chris said, “Moggie played fourdifferent roles in the play, and she wasterrific! She not only sings but also danceswell, and she was very, very funny.”Lynn and Jim Alexander hosteda reception at their home for theincoming Washington, D.C., areamembers of the <strong>Class</strong> of 2015, whichincludes their son Michael. Attendeesincluded Harold Hocking and hissignificant other, Sharon Lynn; Stevenand Denise Mayer ’82 Brownlee; andMark Goldstone. Members of otherclasses attended as well.James Malone has been practicing lawin the Philadelphia area since 1984. He ismarried to Anne, and they have twoFALL 2011 • lafayette 97
