Keep infant level with vagina until the cord is cut14. Assign partner to monitor infant and complete initial care of thenewborn15. Observe for delivery of placenta while preparing mother andinfant for transport17. When delivered, wrap placenta in towel and put in plastic bag;transport placenta to hospital with mother18. Place sterile pad over vaginal opening, lower mother's legs, helpher hold them together19. Record time of delivery and transport mother, infant andplacenta to hospitalC. Vaginal bleeding following delivery - up to 500 cc of blood loss isnormal following delivery1. A 500 cc blood loss is well tolerated by the mother followingdelivery. The EMT-Basic must be aware of this loss so as not tocause undue psychological stress on himself or the new mother.2.
