60 SAN ANTONIO RIVER DESIGN GUIDELINES
PLANTING TYPE “C”
PLANTING TYPE “B”
PLANTING TYPE “A”
Planting
1. The planting types A, B, C and D must be utilized
in specific locations to not impede floodwater
conveyance beyond allowable tolerances, as
described in the Master Plan.
2. A Recommended Plant List is included in the
Appendix. These are the materials that are native
or indigenous to the San Antonio River and will
survive with little or no maintenance.
3. Soil structure rehabilitation must include:
• Removing existing turf grass
• Application of “Round-up”
• Application of two inches of sterilized topsoil
that is tilled into the existing soil to a depth of six
inches.
4. Drill seeding of grass seed.
5. A temporary irrigation system must be
implemented with the planting and be maintained
for the first two years of growth. After the plants
are established, the system can either be removed
or abandoned.
PLAN - GRADING CONCEPT
NOT TO SCALE
The contractor for each segment of the Historical
Mission (Southern) Reach will be required to provide an
extended warranty of two to three years for plant
materials so that all trees, understory, and grasses are
well established at the time the City accepts the planting.
Future final design teams should investigate the possibility
of establishing a nursery to contract grow plant materials,
especially the more rare species. Many of the plants
included on the Recommended Plant List are not readily
available, especially in the quantities that will be required.
