The majority of currentlymarried women obtain family planning services from private doctor clinics (41 percent) and pharmacies (9 percent),while about 22 percent obtain these services from family planning or maternal health centers.85

Unmet need is identifiedin PFS 2010 by using a set of questions eliciting current behaviours and preferences pertaining to contraceptive use,fecundity, and fertility preferences.Table RH.5 shows the results of the survey on contraception, unmet need, and the demand for contraception satisfied.Unmet need for spacing is defined as percentage of women who are not using a method of contraception AND• are not pregnant and not postpartum amenorrheic and are fecund and say they want to wait two or more years fortheir next birth OR• are not pregnant and not postpartum amenorrheic and are fecund and unsure whether they want another child OR• are pregnant and say that pregnancy was mistimed: would have wanted to wait OR• are postpartum amenorrheic and say that the birth was mistimed: would have wanted to waitUnmet need for limiting is defined as percentage of women who are not using a method of contraception AND• are not pregnant and not postpartum amenorrheic and are fecund and say they do not want any more children OR• are pregnant and say they didn’t want to have a child OR• are postpartum amenorrheic and say that they didn’t want the birthMet need for limiting includes women who are using a contraceptive method and who want no more children, areusing male or female sterilization or declare themselves as infecund. Met need for spacing includes women who areusing a contraceptive method and who want to have another child or undecided whether to have another child. Thetotal of met need for spacing and limiting add up to the total met need for contraception. Results show that met needfor limiting is 32 percent and for spacing is 20 percent.Total unmet need for contraception is simply the sum of unmet need for spacing and unmet need for limiting.86
