The FCUcontinuously polls data from field devices such as radar and servo tankgauges, data acquisition units, I/O Modules, other FCUs, Enraf ® CIU:s etcand stores data in a buffer memory. With the FCU it is possible to connect to devices from vendors such as Enraf ®and Whessoe ® (Varec ® , GPE ® , L&J ® etc. are coming possibilities).Whenever a request for data is received from a host, the FCU canimmediately send data from the updated buffer memory. The FCU can servicerequests from a wide range of hosts/DCS systems such as RosemountTankMaster ® , Enraf ® Entis, Yokogawa ® , ABB ® , Honeywell ® , Foxboro ® amongothers (it is possible to connect any system using Modbus protocol). The operation of the FCU is determined by the configuration downloaded to itby a host configuration program. Configuration information is downloaded tothe FCU over the Ethernet network, which can therefore be done remotely. The configuration of the FCU can be modified on-line by downloadingmodifications from the host configuration software. For example, new gaugescan be added, a gauge can be modified from one type to another, or movedfrom one port to another. Each of the ports can be configured either as a master or a slave connection, providing ultimate configuration flexibility. The FCU 2165 has 10 ports of which 4 are reserved for RS 232. The FCU2175 can be ordered with 8, 16, 24 or 32 flexible ports. See pages 1-4 to 1-5.For applications requiring more capacity or when devices are distributed overa large area, multiple FCUs can be used. Two FCUs can also be connected inparallel with one unit operational and the other as a redundant backup. Thebackup unit is automatically activated in case of a primary unit failure (hotstandby). See “Configuration for Redundancy” on page 2-44.www.rosemount-tg.com
