TEN GOOD MEN 159between good and evil. But, like <strong>the</strong>ir forebears 2,000 years ago, <strong>the</strong>y are wander<strong>in</strong>g around aimlessly, unable to f<strong>in</strong>d that location designated as “x” on <strong>the</strong> map. They are look<strong>in</strong>g for a treasure <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> wrongplace and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> wrong manner. One wonders how this can be, s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> signs are clearly visible, and <strong>the</strong>great battle is rag<strong>in</strong>g around <strong>the</strong>m so loudly that even <strong>the</strong> deaf should be able to hear it. The only viableexplanation for this sense of spiritual myopia is that its roots lie <strong>in</strong> sentiments of self-absorption that havepermeated much of Christianity today. One must assume that <strong>the</strong> same tox<strong>in</strong>s which have all but destroyedWestern Civilization have found <strong>the</strong>ir way <strong>in</strong>to Christian th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g as well, and that as a result <strong>the</strong> samenarcissism which afflicts <strong>the</strong> secular world can also be found <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> religious. In such a m<strong>in</strong>dset, today’sapocalyptically concerned Christians who are await<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> much prophesized hell-on-earth to arrive areunable to recognize that it is already <strong>her</strong>e, and <strong>the</strong> apparent bl<strong>in</strong>dness to this reality reveals itself <strong>in</strong> how<strong>the</strong>y today view <strong>the</strong> suffer<strong>in</strong>g of o<strong>the</strong>rs. With<strong>in</strong> this context, <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>dset of such an ideology operatesunder <strong>the</strong> assumption that s<strong>in</strong>ce such tribulations haven’t yet happened to <strong>the</strong>m, that <strong>the</strong>refore <strong>the</strong>y do<strong>no</strong>t yet exist, and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> process <strong>the</strong>y fail to appreciate <strong>the</strong> fact that it is happen<strong>in</strong>g to o<strong>the</strong>rs. The tragedyof <strong>the</strong> situation is that this symptom is by <strong>no</strong> means <strong>the</strong> only aspect of what afflicts Christianity today, for<strong>in</strong> addition to go<strong>in</strong>g about <strong>the</strong>ir lives carelessly as o<strong>the</strong>rs are suffer<strong>in</strong>g a veritable hell on earth, as wellChristians have bought <strong>in</strong>to an idea that once that hell does arrive for <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>the</strong>y will suffer little ifanyth<strong>in</strong>g from it.From just about every corner of what encompasses Christianity, <strong>in</strong>dividuals can be found who haveembraced fantastic ideas concern<strong>in</strong>g what <strong>the</strong> tribulations about to befall <strong>the</strong> world are and how <strong>the</strong>y<strong>the</strong>mselves will be deal<strong>in</strong>g with it. Whe<strong>the</strong>r such th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g is found <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> idea of <strong>the</strong> “rapture” (as embracedby Christian Zionists and ma<strong>in</strong>stream Protestantism) or whe<strong>the</strong>r it is envisioned as <strong>the</strong> “three days ofdarkness” (as embraced by much of Catholicism) <strong>the</strong> common <strong>the</strong>me found <strong>in</strong> both is one of dispensationfrom what are sure to be <strong>the</strong> horrible aspects of div<strong>in</strong>e punishment. Aga<strong>in</strong>, one must assume that thism<strong>in</strong>dset is also <strong>the</strong> product of <strong>the</strong> same narcissistic tendencies which have afflicted <strong>the</strong> secular <strong>in</strong>stitutionsof <strong>the</strong> West, for <strong>in</strong> this case as well as <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> former, a Christianity which has grown soft and weak onluxury and comfort seems to be unable to bear <strong>the</strong> thought of suffer<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>the</strong> faith as <strong>the</strong> forefa<strong>the</strong>rs did.And so, like one biblical writer once wrote, <strong>the</strong>re is <strong>no</strong>th<strong>in</strong>g new under <strong>the</strong> sun, and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> same way that <strong>the</strong>followers of <strong>the</strong> carpenter from Nazareth formulated unrealistic expectations concern<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> loom<strong>in</strong>gconfrontation <strong>in</strong> 33 AD, so too have today’s disciples done <strong>the</strong> same. And, likewise, as <strong>the</strong> disciples of2,000 years ago could be found hid<strong>in</strong>g beh<strong>in</strong>d locked doors for fear of what might happen to <strong>the</strong>m for<strong>the</strong>ir faith, so too can be found <strong>the</strong> ad<strong>her</strong>ents of Christianity today, and <strong>no</strong> better example for this m<strong>in</strong>dsetexists than <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> way <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong> Christian world deals with <strong>the</strong> situation concern<strong>in</strong>g Israel and <strong>her</strong>position <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Middle East conflict. One would th<strong>in</strong>k that <strong>the</strong> conservative Christians who consider <strong>the</strong>mselves a part of <strong>the</strong> avant garde to<strong>the</strong> secular onslaught aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>the</strong>ir faith would be a little more skeptical about <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation concern<strong>in</strong>g<strong>the</strong> Middle East situation, and <strong>in</strong> particular that <strong>in</strong>formation concern<strong>in</strong>g what occurred on 9/11. For atleast <strong>the</strong> last decade, <strong>the</strong>se same conservative Christians accepted as dogma <strong>the</strong> idea that an agendaexisted to destroy <strong>the</strong> Christian faith, an agenda realized through <strong>the</strong> cooperation of organized forces <strong>in</strong><strong>the</strong> government and media who couldn’t be trusted to tell <strong>the</strong> truth, even if a fortune was to be made bydo<strong>in</strong>g so. Unfortunately for <strong>the</strong>m (and for those who must suffer from <strong>the</strong> Zionist agenda which has beenaided by apocalyptically m<strong>in</strong>ded Christians) <strong>no</strong> such skepticism took place, and has yet to occur. Thesesame <strong>in</strong>dividuals who have sat for decades <strong>no</strong>w with clenched fists and gr<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g teeth at <strong>the</strong> attacks on<strong>the</strong>ir Christian values never exhibited an ounce of healthy doubt when <strong>the</strong> same Zionist run mediaresponsible for attack<strong>in</strong>g those values put all <strong>the</strong> pieces of this apocalyptic puzzle toge<strong>the</strong>r for <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong> aneat, tidy package blam<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Muslims. Whe<strong>the</strong>r this example of uncritical acceptance of blatantpropaganda can be attributed to sheer stupidity, <strong>in</strong>tellectual laz<strong>in</strong>ess or a mixture of <strong>the</strong> two is up fordebate. The fact is though, that <strong>the</strong>y, by virtue of <strong>the</strong> manner <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong>y have taken <strong>the</strong> bait laid out
160TEN GOOD MENbefore <strong>the</strong>m, have demonstrated by such to be completely unprepared for <strong>the</strong> war of <strong>the</strong> soul that isquickly approach<strong>in</strong>g. A better-tra<strong>in</strong>ed, more dedicated soldier of <strong>the</strong> faith would recognize that any<strong>in</strong>formation given freely by <strong>the</strong> enemy could <strong>no</strong>t be trusted, and that only a fool would accept it.Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore, if <strong>the</strong>se apocalyptically m<strong>in</strong>ded Christians had done a more thorough read<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong>warn<strong>in</strong>gs that were issued to <strong>the</strong>m by <strong>the</strong>ir commander-<strong>in</strong>-chief, <strong>the</strong>y would have k<strong>no</strong>wn better than tohave allowed <strong>the</strong>mselves to be captured by <strong>the</strong> enemy <strong>in</strong> such a disgraceful manner.“Watch out for false prophets, who come to you <strong>in</strong> sheep’s cloth<strong>in</strong>g, but <strong>in</strong>wardly are rave<strong>no</strong>us wolves...By <strong>the</strong>irfruits you will k<strong>no</strong>w <strong>the</strong>m.” Mat<strong>the</strong>w 7:15If ever <strong>the</strong>re was an era <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong> ugly fruits of false prophecy were on full display, <strong>the</strong>n clearly <strong>no</strong>better example of this exists than <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> poiso<strong>no</strong>us doctr<strong>in</strong>e of Christian Zionism that has so effectivelycaptured a large portion of <strong>the</strong> Christian world today. These ugly fruits are <strong>no</strong>w openly visible <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>present war go<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>in</strong> Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> murder of <strong>the</strong> Palest<strong>in</strong>ian peoples by <strong>the</strong>devilish disciples of Marxist Zionism over <strong>the</strong> course of <strong>the</strong> last 80 years. And while <strong>the</strong>re may be those<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Christian world who have <strong>no</strong>t greedily gulped down <strong>the</strong> madden<strong>in</strong>g w<strong>in</strong>e of Christian Zionism,never<strong>the</strong>less <strong>the</strong>re are those who have sipped from that poisoned chalice, as evidenced <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> mannerwith which <strong>the</strong>y choose to deal with <strong>the</strong> question of Israel’s past, present, and future. With respect to <strong>the</strong> suffer<strong>in</strong>g of those peoples <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> region who have witnessed first hand what is <strong>the</strong>Apocalypse of Marxist Zionism, <strong>the</strong> callous unconcern for such suffer<strong>in</strong>g has become one of modern dayChristianity’s def<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g characteristics. By such behavior, today’s Christians have become <strong>the</strong> same priestand Levite <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> parable who, after witness<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> plight of him who had been beaten and robbed,cont<strong>in</strong>ued un<strong>in</strong>terrupted <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir walk <strong>without</strong> <strong>the</strong> slightest trace of compassion or concern. In like manner,as <strong>the</strong> peoples of <strong>the</strong> Middle East have been beaten and robbed by <strong>the</strong> thuggery of Marxist Zionism, <strong>the</strong>“religious” members of <strong>the</strong> Christian community have barely glanced <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir direction at what is <strong>the</strong>pitiable state of <strong>the</strong>ir fellow man. By such actions, modern day Christians who are party to this havedemonstrated what has become <strong>the</strong>ir contempt for <strong>the</strong> rules of justice and charity towards <strong>the</strong> least of<strong>the</strong>ir brethren <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Middle East. Aga<strong>in</strong>, <strong>the</strong> roots of this can be traced to <strong>the</strong> narcissism which afflictsmuch of Christianity today, exactly <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> same way that it afflicted <strong>the</strong> priest and <strong>the</strong> Levite whose livesand <strong>in</strong>terests were of such importance that <strong>no</strong>t even com<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> aid of a dy<strong>in</strong>g man would divert ordistract <strong>the</strong>m. Those <strong>in</strong>dividuals who would defend <strong>the</strong>ir complacency with <strong>the</strong> argument that <strong>the</strong>yhave <strong>no</strong>t taken any sides with regards to <strong>the</strong> situation <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Middle East should realize that <strong>the</strong>y aremerely suffer<strong>in</strong>g from a mild case of <strong>the</strong> same virus which has afflicted millions of o<strong>the</strong>rs <strong>in</strong> a full blownway. And even though such <strong>in</strong>dividuals may <strong>no</strong>t have been baptized <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> idolatrous religion ofChristian Zionism, (as manifested <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> master race ideology which is applied generously to <strong>the</strong><strong>in</strong>habitants of Israel by Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and <strong>the</strong> rest) never<strong>the</strong>less, when all is said and done,<strong>the</strong> real reason for <strong>the</strong>ir complacency is <strong>no</strong>t pardonable by any means. The dirty little secret which muchof ma<strong>in</strong>stream Christianity doesn’t want to face (<strong>no</strong>r wishes to have revealed) is that <strong>the</strong> reason for <strong>the</strong>irdeafen<strong>in</strong>g silence on <strong>the</strong> issue of how <strong>the</strong> peoples of <strong>the</strong> Middle East are suffer<strong>in</strong>g is <strong>no</strong>t rooted <strong>in</strong> religiousor <strong>in</strong>tellectual reservations that are <strong>the</strong> fruits of careful consideration. It is <strong>no</strong>t rooted <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> benign neglectthat many of its ad<strong>her</strong>ents would like to claim it is. Ra<strong>the</strong>r it is best understood as orig<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> same<strong>in</strong>st<strong>in</strong>cts that gripped <strong>the</strong>ir forefa<strong>the</strong>rs 2,000 years ago <strong>in</strong> Jerusalem 33 AD, as <strong>the</strong>y sat shiver<strong>in</strong>g andquiver<strong>in</strong>g beh<strong>in</strong>d locked doors. That <strong>in</strong>st<strong>in</strong>ct which afflicted <strong>the</strong> first Christians with <strong>the</strong> same sense ofspiritual paralysis that afflicts a good number of <strong>the</strong>m today is simply (for lack of better phraseology) fearof <strong>the</strong> Jews. This fear is completely understandable, and only <strong>the</strong> truly bl<strong>in</strong>d or <strong>the</strong> truly dishonest would attempt to
